Faced with the failure of his plans to open a BEVERLY HILLBILLIES themed casino in Las Vegas and owing QUITE a lot of money to investors, Max Baer Jr. has finally consented to reprise one of the roles he played on the BEVERLY HILLBILLIES, that of Jethrene, sister of Jethro Bodine, also played by Mr. Baer. While originally proposed as a spinoff show back in the mid-60s, The JETHRENE Show! never became a reality after Max Baer balked at continuing the role. "It wasn't that I objected to the dresses and curls," Max said. "It was to avoid being typecast as a dumb-as-a-post hillbilly." In deference to his age, Mr. Baer will not be playing the role of Jethro when Jethro makes an occasional appearance on the show. That role now seems destined to go to local KCET personality, Heuell Howser, noted for his appearances on the smash hit interview show, CALIFORNIA'S GOLD. Insiders say that Bea Arthur has snagged the role of "Aunt Pearl", Jethrene's mother, formerly played by Bea Benederet. Plotlines for The JETHRENE Show! call for Jethrene to play a famous traveling yodeler who is secretly an after-hours spy. "I'm kinda looking forward to getting back into the Jethrene costume,' said Mr. Baer. "Especially the undergarments." Plans call for an early September airing.
