To the editor,
Michael Sragow, in his interview with Paul Mavrides, refers to the
artist's notorius involvement with a "phony religion" (i.e., The Church
of the SubGenius.) I take umbrage at this depiction of a faith that I
have involved myself in during my entire adult life. No doubt Mr.
Sragow's religion is the phony one, whatever it may be. He's just
jealous.
His religion must be so phony that it has left him blind to the fact
that Mavrides is secrectly talking about the SubGenius
sacrament, 'frop, not marijuana, in the film. This potent herb has been
prohibited to Believers O' "Bob" since governments came into being way
back into antiquity.
Sragow may be currently happy living a Pink life as a writer for Salon,
but he'll be singing a different tune come XXX-Day. He'll wish that he
had quit his job and slacked off.

Cut the man some slack, Jack. It's just a typical cultural misunderstanding.
You said yourself the writer's religion was phoney, so he probably thought ALL
religions were phoney 'coz that's how he was raised. Only those lucky enough to
be born and raised in the One True Church of the Subgenius realize there is any
such thing as a "non" phoney religion. Count yourself lucky, and feel sorry for
the ignorant outsiders.

Praise "Bob"!
