Mystery Rash Spreads to Montgomery County

ROYERSFORD, PA: February 8, 2002 - Health officials are still stumped
about what's causing students at two Bucks County schools to break out
in rashes, and now youngsters at a school in Montgomery County are
complaining about a pink, burning rash.

The mystery rash has now shown up at the Springford Intermediate School
in Royersford, Montgomery County. Ten students there developed a pink,
burning rash on Thursday.

Investigators were at the two schools in the Quakertown Community School
District that have been closed down indefinitely because of nearly 100
cases of the mystery rash.

EPA investigators who examined the Richland Elementary School on Thursday
said that air is not properly circulating in the building. Investigators
are also looking over the Quakertown Elementary School.

There will be a meeting with the latest information for parents Saturday
at 2:00 at Quakertown High School.
