Here is what our fellow bereaved Zontarian, St. Joe Riley of Dallas....
**HEY WAIT A MINUTE!!!  I FORGOT ABOUT JOE!!! .... he DOESN'T live too
far from the... HMMMM! !!! I never think of Joe as living in dallas
because for a long time he was way out in the boonies. But actually for
the lst few years he's been kinda half near the old 'hood... HMMM! THE
OLD PO BOX!!  PERHAPS AGAR'S DEATH WAS NOT FOR NOTHING!!

Anyway here's what Joe said:

**
From: Joe Riley

One of my favorite actors has died at 81 years of age...John
Agar.
Agar's played along side John Wayne in westerns and war films
(Sands of Iwo Jima, Fort Apache), but is really known for being in some
of the best and kookiest 50's and 60's films ever made.
i.e. Invisible Invaders, Attack of the Puppet People, Tarantula,
Journey to the 7th Planet, Mole People, Revenge of the Creature, Hand of
Death, Curse of the Swamp Creature, ZONTAR-The Thing from Venus (!), and
my all time favorite, The Brain from Planet Arous (Incredible
performance!).
In every one of these films, Agar crafted a different and
distinctive character and usually was heads above the rest of the cast
in
believability.
If you've never seen any of these films, trust me...go rent one
today.

       Joe

The kind that's quite a few steps up the ladder from the kind of person
who pretends to be obtusely asking incredibly dense questions like this
one,  when really all he wants is to just be pissy and prissy for the
sheer fuck of it.

You're right, I know EXACTLY what kind of person idolizes drunken failures.

Some time back Psychotronic Video magazine ran an interview
with him.  I can't wait to see what the next issue says about
this.

(Lifts a glass in John Agar's memory.)

In 1992, I was in some tiny pub attic, part of an audience of about 12
people for a performance by Gary Lucas (ex Capt. Beefheart guitarist).
Mr. Lucas was playing solo guitar (using about 100 pedals) in a
strangely affectingly totally deranged manner. The title of the most
whatever it is you call something that's as far sideways as it was
piece he played was "The Brain From Planet Arous"... I had to track a
copy of the movie down after that. In 2001 I finally scored a copy of
the video (a demo copy with the timeclock running on top the screen
but what the hell), and experienced UNTRAMELLED HEAD-POPPING
FULL-FLEDGED BUBONIC GLEE.

But I am notoriously easily pleased.

Better Than Nothing. Arguably.
