Some random thoughts on current events...

Andrea Yates. Everyone's been dissecting her psychosis as being
founded on post-partum depression. How come nobody's linked this
psychosis with her fundamental Christian beliefs? After all, she
drowned those little rugrats to save them from Satan, not the OB-GYN
doc...

Anyone else drawing any parallels between the recent elections in
Zimbabwe and the presidential election debacle in Florida?

D It seems odd that there is such a low level of concern over Bush &
Co.'s new fast-n-loose attitude towards the use of nuclear weapons?  I
wouldn't trust that man with my car keys, much less the keys to the
nation's nuke arsenal. Get the feeling that some irresponsible asswipe
is gonna drop the proverbial Big One sooner or later? How much ya
wanna bet it's OUR irresponsible asswipe?

Bush pushed the lever down with his penis *first*,
so HE gets the peanut.  Gore just moved the lever
down when he was sucking on it.  So technically,
Bush won.  Them's the rules.  They don't *have* to
use their hand.  Supreme Court says so.

I think the light is starting to dawn that it's a BIG
world.  BIG and COMPLICATED.  And full of WORDS that
you have to READ.  And you have to THINK.  And it's
so much HARDER than TEEVEE.  And wouldn't you rather
watch Britney on MTV than hear about some nuclear
something-or-other in a place full of brown people
you have never and will never meet?  I mean, nuclear
stuff is ICKY and you have to watch a bunch of eggheads
on CNN talk on and on about ATOMS and MOLECULES and
shit, and it just makes you feel bad when all you have
to do is CHANGE THE CHANNEL to NICKELODEON where they're
showing some lame cartoon 'cause the local listings
never show when something neat like Invader Zim is going
to be on.
Okay, so somebody drops a bomb, right?  And then what
happens?  Unless it's like going to be a full-scale
worldwide nuclear holocaust, in which case O-KAY, I
GUESS I'LL HAVE TO WATCH CNN now, then I JUST DON'T
WAN'T TO HAVE TO THINK ABOUT IT.

But there's the thing.  So somebody drops a bomb and
there ISN'T a worldwide fuck over.  All of a sudden
EVERBODY REALIZES THAT NUKES ARE JUST LIKE EVERY OTHER
KIND OF BOMB!!!  (except bigger.)  So it becomes, like,
SOCIALLY ACCEPTABLE to NUKE someone!

What I'm trying to say is:  DON'T YOU REALIZE HOW MUCH
*MONEY* WE COULD MAKE SELLING NUCLEAR BOMBS TO EVERYONE!!!

(the above represents G. Bush's (Jr.) thought processes.
Now aren't you sorry you asked?)

Post-partum depression manifests itself differently based on a
person's psychological makeup for sure, but would you feel better if
she had been traumatized in a circus and killed her kids to keep them
from being eaten by clowns?

You've got to hand it to Mugabe.  He fixed the election MUCH better
than the Republicrats did here.

The leaked Sooper Sekrit Gubmint Documents(tm) pertain only to where
the missiles are pointed, not a change in position on their use.

Two friends of mine are working on separate dissertations and had never met
until two weeks ago, but I introduced them due to a very odd intersection of
their separate studies.  One finishing her dissertation in medical
anthropology told me of her work in Brazil, and how women in poverty
situations would often choose deliberately, if necessary, to stop feeding
the smallest/youngest/weakest child, and feed only her older children,
letting the young child starve and die.  Often she would use some excuse
other than "we do not have enough food", usually some behavior- or
religious- related reason to stop loving the child.  Selective abandonment
is prevalent in all animals when resources are dangerously low.

Lo and behold, my other friend getting her PhD in criminal psychology was
working on a bizarre local case where a woman with 3 children locked her
youngest in the closet, refused to feed her, punished her for eating dog
food and let her die at all of 9 pounds at the age of six.  The mother was
given the death penalty, but the excuses she gave was that the child was
whiny, colicky, badly behaved and a nuisance, plus the child was the
offspring of a past partner whom she despised.  The mother was lucid, not
mentally ill, but why did she do such a horrible thing?

My observation is that many poverty-afflicted humans in the US often do not
seek resources due to pride (refusing, say, the food bank), as well as any
sort of gauge for emotional health and resource-related interaction, as the
comfort of their personal poverty is more welcome than the alienness of
vision and accomplishment, and the demanding confusion of responsibility.
People who are poor have ingrained the state of survival, and it is very
difficult to reverse their attitude from jadedness to optimism and
creativity.  For them, that's how the world is.  Even in the midst of wealth
and available free resources, there will be poverty in the form of ignorance
or dysfunction due to personal choice within circumstances.  Lucid people
can kill their children, they don't have to be psychotic.  They just see no
way out, and have not been given an example of looking for it.

Women who kill their children are acting out instinct in a mental reality
where resources are dangerously low and overpopulation kills.  In a village
in Brazil where the crops have failed and there is no charity, this is a
physical reality that asserts the mental reality.  In the mind of the
depressive, however, resources are fleeting and nigh impossible to attain,
and emotional resources like love are as difficult to give as it is to give
love to a child that a mother knows is going to starve to death.  So there
are excuses created to deny that love and end the life of that child.

All broken human behavior has a biological root in survival instinct,
triggered by levels of interference in social and physical resources.  This
interference can come from within (mental) or without (environs), however it
is always interpreted as coming from without, faulted on others and not
oneself.  Depression is a chemical, or ingrained, negative-reinforcement
interference, preventing the mindset of the practical exchange of positive
love and affection, and stopping providing-behavior such as cleaning and
gathering.  Antagonism is caused either by an actual or percieved
withholding of resources by an authority, either an emotional authority in
abusive relationships, or a cultural or law authority in the instance of
racial and cultural hatred.  Self defense is of course the logical response
to antagonism.  Neglect is the triggering of passive self-preservation;
starvation mode.  Whether or not the perceived interference is based on
mental illness/chemical disorder is not the issue, so much as the fact that
the survival-minded person is incapable of envisioning options out of their
current situation.

This having been said, I still say blow up the fucking Pinks; destroy the
Conspiracy, praise "Bob", fuck "Bob", kill "Bob", and humans SUCK and are
nigh WORTHLESS even though I'm cursed with knowing what neuroses make the
stupid little monkeys tick.  For all I care, they can EAT their offspring if
JHVH-1 tells them to, he ain't my pal.

A perfect capsule summary of Po'bucker mentality. I've had a number of
friends over the years who were a lot like this. A number of them
seemed fairly bright, at least enough so to make it through a tech
program or community college without breaking too much of a sweat.
Student loans shouldn't be a problem either - I had been there, done
that and offered to help. Nevertheless, whenever I made the
suggestion, they'd either gin up some REALLY lame excuses not to or
get mad at me for no apparent reason.

So it goes. Darwin was an optimist.

Nope, doesn't make me feel one bit better. I know good and damn well
that the President pretty much acts as a marionette for the Con, a
target for the anger of the Peanut Gallery. What galls me is that the
Con picked such an obviously stupid, lame and incompetant one. Their
estimation of the public's intellect must be pretty low, and who can
blame them. Besides, as a SubGenius Doktor, I have enough HATE to go

cabinet, his hair, his dog, his socks, etc. etc.

Hey, did you know that there's been a marked increase in dismissals

Sucker. He'll return the car and you'll be overjoyed at how clean it is

Seriously, a MSG saw the teevee show "Scared Straight" about
life in the joint, in which there was a scene of a big black
shavehead convict talking about his "wives."  For a couple of
days thereafter, the MSG just walked around in a daze mumbling
about that scene, which later became the mumbled mantra,
"they'll never take me alive!", over and over again.

We made *extra* sure that the arms room was secure for a few
days, you betcha.

The problem with that is the homos are usually the most competent
people in the armed forces.  They found that out when under Reagan,
the homophobes went on a tear and started getting rid of homos
aggressively in the armed forces.

When they raped the Armed Forces medical services, they
found that things went to shit because all the really
competent people were tossed out.

If they had all gay divisions, I suspect that they'd
show up the others so bad that it would be a major embarressment,
and I suspect that a few people in the government and
military know just enough about past history on the issue
to realize it.

I remember a decade ago that the Dutch Army was pretty
weird.  Bunch of long haired, bearded hippies.  The Dutch
allowed them to dress as they wanted as long as they did
the job.  So they looked like Vikings transported forward
8 centuries and dressed in modern BDUs.  But in every NATO
exercise, these guys always came out on top.  They were
seriously competent.  And aways under-rated by opponenets who
sneered at their appearance.

And I note in reports from teh French in Afghanistan,
our troops there aren't really performing well at the front,
much like they failed at Grenada.  In Grenada, only
overwhelming numbers and no relief possible for the Cubans
won the day.

In Afghanistan, we have bombers, and still, the
Al Qaeda forces seem to have slipped away, again.

Maybe we should fire our burr-headed, heterosexual
military commanders there and hire a bunch of ex-Dutch
army homos to come over and straighten everything out.

We had a NCO in my Unit when I was on Active Duty in 1979. Everyone know he was
gay, but he was the best M-60 Tank turrent mechanic around. The older M-60A1's
and an analog balistic computer, a big box with all these gears and cogs. It
was accurate but if it broke, 95% of teh tuttent mechanics would never be able
to fix it. So the usual thing was just to replace it all together. This guy
could take it apart and out it togeteher right the first time.

That, plus the fact the Army was short of Turrent Mechanics was the reason they
left him alone.

>They found that out when under Reagan,
>the homophobes went on a tear and started getting rid of homos

In the 80's, for about three years straight, all the "Marine Non-Commmisioned
Officer of The Year" were eventualy kicked out for homosexuality. They all
figured that their earning the Award would let them come out and stay in on
merit only. HA!

>When they raped the Armed Forces medical services, they
>found that things went to shit because all the really

Oh they solved that little problem. They no longer offer military health care
for dependents and retirees. When I went in in 1978, the military offerd
medical and dental care to dependents as a tradition dating back to the days of
the Army Manning Wilderness posts in Western Pennsylvania!

Within the first two years of the Reagan Adminstration, That was replaces with
CHAMPUS. A "managed Care" program fro dependents that allowed them to go to
civialin Doctors and Hospitals. The porblem was Champus only paid about 50% of
the actual costs. And oftern it took a year for the Doctor to get the money!
But it allowed them to reduce the workload for the military medical system. Now
the only civialins thatcan go to a Military Hospital for non-emergancy care is
teh President!

>I suspect that a few people in the government and
>military know just enough about past history on the issue
>to realize it.

I think the problem is that the "Policy Makers" have almost to a man NEVER
served in the military. Look at all the GOP leadership! Expept Powell (who got
in the Army under a early form of racial Qouta's) they all managed to either
dog the draft altogether or get assigend to cushy non-combat jobs state side or
get into the National Guard.

When I was in the Army in 1978-1982, about half the people I served with would
have been licked out in todays militay. But I know that those guys I served
with knew their stuff and could kick todays Army's butt one to one.

The Military was rebuilt after Vietnam in now small part by the guys who were
small unit leaders in that war. At the Company and Battalion Level. They are
the ones who became obsesed with training and prepardness that the Military in
the Pre-Vietnam days did not do. IN the early days of Vietnam, veterns of the
French War and the WWII Jungle fighting offered their advice to the Marines and
the Army. Which was ignored.

Now those leaders have gone, and we are stuck with the "New HEROES". I had the
"Privaledge" of working with them when I got my Commission in the National
Guard in 1988. They are dumb! They are get into their positions becuase when
you pull their strings, they can sprout out the latest Right-Wing Pholosophy!
Just what the higher ups want to hear! The fact that they do not know their
jobs is inmaterial.

I saw ay my last AT with the Guard before I retired the typical example of this
in action.

I was on the Planning Staff of a Signal Brigade. We had a signal exercise based
on Ft. Dix and spread out to Ft. Indiantown Gap, ft Detreck, and Ft. Mamouth.

We had 3 Signal Battalions, one Tropo Scatter Company, and a Air Force TAC SAT
Squadren.

This exercise had been planend for almost 8 months, and each member of the
Battalion Staff was assigned a part of the OPORD to write for it. I had TWO
sections to write, the TELECOM Annex as well as the NBC Annex. With 4 months to
go, we were to submit our drafts to the S-3 for review and mark up. Only one
officer got his work in, me!

Flash forward to that June. We have moved to Ft. Dix, and the Battalions are
out to their respective areas. But for 2 days nothing happens. The Battalions
STILL do not have an OPORD! (Actually they have part of an OPORD, the TELECOM
AND NBC Annexes!) So all these super troopers suddenly start tapping away at
their laptops! And the next day loe and behold! There are now THREE OFFICAL
OPORDS! Each one contradicts the othe two! by the time it was straightened out,
we lost almost half of out AT period to sitting around on our butts!

So at the end, who gets the medals and awards!? The guy who did his job on time
and right the first time, but think Bush I was a coward for letting Saddam
survive the Gulf War and lets everyone know it!? NO! It the guys who spend the
time they should have been doing their jobs, sitting around on theri asses,
reading the American Spectaor, listen to Rush Lardbutt, and comlaining how
CLINTON was distroying the military!

A Marine reservist of my acquaintance once explained to me that the
reason Clinton broke his campaign promise re gays in the military, and
came up with the absurd "don't ask/don't tell" policy, is that JCS
Chairman Colin Powell basically flat out told Clinton that he couldn't
guarantee the saftey of openly gay service members. My acquaintance
underlined this with a story of how one of the kids in his boot camp
platoon s\got the shit beaten out of him for not acting sufficiently
masculine.

If I were Clinton--and no jokes from the kneepad gallery, please--if I
were Clinton, my response would've been:

"Do you mean to tell me, General, that you can't guarantee the safety
of your own troops, in their own barracks? That U.S. servicemen are
going to assault other U.S. servicemen, and there's nothing you can do
about it?
"General, I expect your resignation to be on my desk before the end of
the day. Dismissed."

And in the real world, the military leader who can't assure the safety
of his own troops is now in charge of U.S. foreign policy.

See above.

Note also that neither Gore nor Nader makes a really convincing Mua'Dib.

Two points:  Powell couldn't even guarantee the safety of
Clinton himself on at least two dozen military installations
and naval vessels--literally, their respective commanders
had sent the Pentagon the request that it was "too dangerous,
please do not visit here."

I remember one visit to an aircraft carrier, where they
assembled the shift that would be on duty for the Clinton
arrival.  They asked the swabs if any held deep personal
objections to Clinton or his policies.  Those that stuck
up their hands, dozens of them, were escorted below decks
and held *under arms* by Warrant Officers until Clinton had
left.

The other point was the *explosion* of homosexual-associated
homicide after the Don't Ask Don't Tell policy went into
effect.  It was expressed to me that, before the policy, if
you were gay or discovered in a homosexual act, you would get
an honorable or general discharge, and have a nice day.  But
afterwards, it was like a gay guy was "the enemy."  If you
were even suspected of being gay, someone maybe not even from
your unit might take the opportunity if he spotted you out
some night, of sticking a shank in you.  And with no direct
connection to him, the odds of nailing the assailant were
small.

A lot of people died during those times, some estimates of
200+ unsolved homicides a year.

Bush II is just the Conspiracy's way of saying,
"We don't even have to PRETEND to try any more."  At this point the
Hu-Man has demonstrated it will buy anything, and what's more, compete
to pay for the mere opportunity to buy it.
