(An Iraqi post-US Conquest government would be a
three-phase operation (according to US News and
World Report.) My opinions of what will *really*
happen come after)

1) Under the first phase envisioned by the plan
Iraq would be ruled by the military, almost
certainly an American general.

2) The second phase would be some sort of
international civilian administration, entailing
a diminished U.S. military presence and an
increasing amount of Iraqi responsibility in the
government.

3) Under the third phase, power would be
transferred to a representative, multiethnic Iraqi
government after some sort of constitutional
convention, according to the magazine...

MY OPINIONS

1) A period of chaos during which hated minorities
will be slaughtered by the major factions within
Iraq, the nearby internationals, like Turkey and
Iran, and by mercenaries who work for both the US
government and the oil companies. This will be
during the time we are making overtures at "king-
making", knowing full well that nobody can run the
mess; really just finding out which warlords think
they are the strongest. The US Army will just
maintain a semblance of order and will keep any
other army out.

2) Either the partitioning of the country or just
getting the Saudis to put up a Moslem puppet that
will rule long enough for the US to bug out before
he is overthrown.

3) Tsk-tsking the "Human Tragedy of Iraq", without
making mention that though the people are starving,
the oil is flowing and nobody is trying to conquer
what's left for fear of getting a cruise missile
stuck up their arse. Kind of like Columbia.

In this Phase, the Oil Fields will secured via a network of Barbed wire and
landmines, just like the East German Border (which I patrolled in the US Army
in the 1980's).

A Large US Air Force Presence and a Brigade Sized US Military Ground unit will
secure it, as well as corridor ro the sea ports.

This stage will set up a "democracy" which will be elceted using the same
political machine that gave Hussian 100% of the vote, and elected Bush as
President in teh First place. The US cannot risk a true Democratic election as
Iraq has a large Majority of Suni Muslems who would be natuaraly aligned with
Iran (which the occupied Iraq would make a excellent push off point for and
invasion)

This stage will ensure that the new US backed Government will be no better then
Saddam's. Only the CIA will assure that the new leader wil not cut his strings
to the White House like Saddam did. And like the "government" in Afghanistan,
it will depend on the backing of a large US military presence to stay in
"power". The Leader of Afghanistan has ay least a company if not a full
battalion of Rangers to guard him. They dress in civilain clothes (which is a
violation of the Geneva Conevtion) and have all grown beards to "blend in".
Most of them were assigned to this duty because they all can pass for Afghans
(who look more like Italians or Greeks then Arabs)

either the military government or a muslim puppet regime selected by
saudi arabia would seem like a possibility... if it weren't for the
hawks in the bush administration throwing their support behind the
Iraqi National Congress. the INC (intereseting abbreviation...) is an
opposition group formed by ahmed chalabi, a former banker on the run
from the law... the INC has been promising that if *they* become the
new leaders of Iraq, they may de-nationalize the oil fields, giving
all Iraq's oil to U.S. petroleum companies. this would put the U.S in
charge of a huge chunk of the world's oil and has been promoted as a
way to crush opec, destabilize saudi arabia (our supposed allies) and
take over the middle east.

of course, one kink in this plan is that the INC has virtually no
support in Iraq and is hated by the other opposition groups -- the
shiites in the south and the two kurdish groups in the north. one
reason may be some issues of trust after the groups openly attacked
each other during a previous attempt to topple saddam. the same
failed coup also generated a lot of distrust of the INC in another
participant: the CIA, which has been telling the U.S. Congress to
ignore Perle and Wolfowitz whenever those two promote chalabi's
group. the CIA does not trust chalabi.

Well, I'm sure that only the best and most stable
situation will be created with the help of the CIA,
as with their what, 5th attempted failed coup in
Venezuela this year?

So, to boil things down, we are either looking at
astoundingly greedy naivete that boggles the mind
with its stupid bungling towards utter chaos, or
byzantine schemes so complex and arcane as to be
incomprehensible, and that are so dependant on
utterly contrived axioms and incapable actors that
they imitate perfectly the schemes of the astoundingly
greedy naive down to their same eventual result of
bungling towards utter chaos.

Sounds like the Iran/Contra affair.

You've got to have a lot of practice.
