Friday's Philosophy of September Eleventh

Many people have come up with many proposals of how we should mark this,
the day that everything changed for America.

Patriot Day. National Service Day. Day of Wrath. Song singing. Flag
waving. Blowing up a country we don't like. Candlelight vigils. Moment
of silence.

(Myself, I think if everyone in America SCREAMED IN TERROR at 8:46 AM, that
would be more appropriate than silence).

The proposal that most warms the cockles of my heart is
simply to DELETE September Eleventh from the calendar entirely. September
would go 9 - 10 - 12 - 13, and we would add an extra day onto February.
This means that if you were born on February 29th, you get to celebrate
your real birthday every year, instead of every four years! Yay!

But that's not going to happen.

As for myself, I intend to start my own tradition: Go to Work Late Day. It
was all those go-getters and hustlers and cooks and janitors who just HAD
to be at work by 8:30 AM in New York City who got hosed at 8:46 AM. To
make sure that I do not repeat their folly, I will sip sixteen minutes of
slack from my schedule.

Of course, I don't actually get to work until 9 am, but the principle is
the same.
