Pierre Berton, journalist, prolific author (50 books published) of popular
Canadian History, as well as children's books, cookbooks, salacious novels and
so on...died this week at age 84. His last public appearance was on CBC tv Rick
Mercer's Monday Report, where he showed Canada and the world the proper way to
roll a joint. See the video clip at http://www.cbc.ca/mondayreport/

For the USian audience, Monday Report is a satirical news show, similar to the
Daily Show. Rick Mercer, formerly of This Hour Has 22 Minutes, is famous for
his 'streeters' - rapid-run rants filmed by an embattled cameraperson walking
backwards in fast-motion while tilting the camera. He also did a special called
"Talking With Americans", where he ambushed people who should have known
better, such as college students, professors, the governor of Arkansas and
others, and asked them embarrassingly easy questions, setting them up to
congratulate Canada on: its 'first mile of paved highway', 'becoming part of
North America' 'ending the practice of leaving the elderly on icefloes to die',
' adopting the 24-hour day', etc.

His bits on clubbing baby seals and the government-
sponsored marajuana farm really had me goin'! And
that bit about the poo-tin? Classic comedy material!

Frozen in the throat
It petrifies the tongue,
Turns mouth into a moat
Shoots arrows through the lung,
Then it contorts intestines -
Guttural rending pain -
Cramps muscles up, and next it
Sclerotifies the brain
