I wonder what the Orangutangs thought of the tsunami.
They were probably like, "See? I told you to stay in the trees!"

Somewhere I heard that not a single non-domesticated animal
carcass was found in all of the wreckage, the theory being
that the animals knew enough to move to high ground before
the tsunami hit. This would explain why no Subgenii were
killed in the disaster.

I heard this on the radio. There was a report that an animal sanctuary
couldn't account for ONE animal. They couldn't even find the ELEPHANTS
carcases! All gone. Most interesting.
So long, and thanks for all the fish?
(Ah. i see Dear John W. has just posted the AP story.)

I develop a similar feeling just before most elections, but all of the
nearest high ground is owned by Republicans. Its sorta like running from
Godzilla by leaping into the gullet of the nearest crocodile.

TSUNAMI -- Animals fled; a warning missed
A Reuters report notes that in Sri Lanka, where tens of thousands lost their
lives to the Boxing Day tsunami, animals appear to have fled inland before
the waves struck.
As governments gear up to spend fortunes on tsunami warning systems, the
mystery cannot afford to be overlooked.
Giant waves washed floodwaters up to 3 km inland at Yala National Park in
the ravaged southeast, Sri Lanka's biggest wildlife reserve and home to
hundreds of wild elephants and several leopards, Reuters said.
"The strange thing is we haven't recorded any dead animals," HD Ratnayake,
deputy director of the national Wildlife Department, told Reuters on
Wednesday.
"No elephants are dead, not even a dead hare or rabbit," he added. "I think
animals can sense disaster. They have a sixth sense. They know when things
are happening."
