Pamphlet #1 in Adobe PDF

I am new to the group, and wanted to find an easy way to print off
Pamphlet #1 from the Internet, I took the HTM files and loaded them into
Open Office and tweaked them just a bit for formatting sake and exported
it as an Adobe Acrobat PDF file printable nearly anywhere. Downside, it's
big and prints off on letter size paper. I am working on a more portable
size, but am limited to what my software can produce. I may be able to do
something in a full Desktop Publishing suite, I will try at some point.
In any event, please check out my file and kick the tires, see if it will
be useful to anyone.

Do you have output size adjustments in your
printer software?
Print setup --> paper --> options or something?

What I want to be able to do is format it so it prints in the intended
size, like a standard religious tract. To be honest, I have never actually
seen the physical manifestation of Pamphlet #1, I just discovered "Bob"
last night. All I had to go on was the HTML version.
Open Office is cool, but it is not a DTP application. I could do it on MS
Publisher, however as a True Linux Geek I do not have any Micro$oft
products on my computer.
I figured letter size would WORK, and the pamphlet can be easily printed,
just not in the pocket size I would like. But at least it's printable,
unlike the HTML version on the SubSITE.

You'll have to get hardcopy of
Revelation X: The Bobapocryphon
and the Book of the SubGenius
-- lots of ready-to-xerox artwork.
Too bad you don't have a Mac, then I might

Oh, I plan to get them, books are on the list after I pay my ordination. I
have been into the Church for 36 hours, so I am taking baby steps.

Usually, I don't have a problem. But I rarely do any DTP stuff.

I converted the html version to pdf in 8 1/2 x 11, I don't remember
how I did it.
I thought of doing it in some other size to emulate the original
printed pamphlets, but I drew a blank. How would you do it exactly?
You could try to scale it down to a smaller size, print them back to
back, then staple them together or something, but I really didn't see
all that much point ...
If I could remember how I did the ones I did I could probably shake
loose how to do the PDF versions, if you want, but where I stopped was
what exactly the layout would be. If you have a clear idea I could
try to come up with something.
The other problem though was that, working off of the HTML version,
the image resolution was right on the edge. Printing at full 8 1/2 x
11 I could get a reasonably legible version, but if I scaled it down
smaller it would no longer be legible.
To really make it work, I figured, you would need to rescan all the
graphics, every single one, at a high resolution, so you could do
scaling without killing the legibility. Then redo the page layout,
the text and the text/graphic flow from scratch.
At that point I think it would be easier to do what the other guy was
saying, and just scan a whole original pamphlet at high resolution,
and make each page of the PDF a full graphic. Then you could scale
them however you want and not have to worry about page layout at all.
At that point, really, there is not much point making it a PDF anyway.
If you have each page as a graphic then you can use just about
anything to arrange and print the graphics. Just as long as they lay
out in such a way that you can print them back to back and staple them
together. You could use MS Paint as easily as anything else.

In that case, I can scan the Weirdo Magazine printing thereof (my first
exposure to "Bob"), save it as a JPEG or PDF, & email it to whomever is
interested. Unless someone wants to cough up the pittance of price &
actually BUY a real one from the Church, that is.

All that you need is $30 to "Bob". Then you have to carry NOTHING, plus
you'll receive elaborate ministerial credentials, suitable for framing,
as well as a wallet sized membership card, which you can have tattooed
on your butt, to preclude anal probes from Greys. You're stilll pink
to "Bob" unless he's seen your $30.

The last page of both Pamphlets is a severely outdated price list. By
chance, last week I made and posted a pdf (and a jpg) of the new
improved price list to alt.binaries.slack.
In about two weeks I will have 1,000 copies of the NEW, REVISED
Pamphlets #1 and 2 -- the sole revisions being those updated price
lists, AND THE ADDRESS.
Until then, all existing pamphlets are hideously out-dated on account
of our two Texas PO boxes no longer being ours.
If somebody else were to take the existing Pamphlets, splice in my new
price list pages to replace the old ones, and change the addresses on
the outer mailing page to say, in Times Roman,
SubGenius Foundation, Inc.
PO Box 181417
Cleveland Hts., OH 44118
then you'd probably beat me to it, since I'm in Texas right now and not
anywhere near my scanners and crap anyway.
When I finally have them done right I'll probably make the pdf
available on SubSITE.

Just curious. Any idea who the poor bastard is who
now owns that previously sacred P.O. Box?
Maybe you could grant them a Reverendship so they
will forward stuff to you after the official forwarding
ends.

Beating _me_ to things seems to be all the rage these days with the
kids, especially Fenian (whose town i happenned to visit unexpectedly
last night for xlistnessmas eve (without a chance to warn him or to go
say thanks)).
In my short (yearly) absence from this wonderfully digital world, it
seems that (somehow) things have been ticking along just fine. I'll
personally go thank the overman/woman/thing who manages to cram that
sacred pamphlet down to a usable .pdf file. That's been oe of my pet
peeves for quite some time, and if i recall correctly, the last person
to get me all excited about the pdf version was Cardinal Vertigo, who
may very well have made some progress by now. A good place to start,
perhaps.
No one seems to have mentioned to our wonderful new recruit that if he
wants a copy (a hard one) of the pamphlet, it comes in the official
membership package. Not making any promises or anything, but if you
send a dollar to... somewhere, i heard they'll send you a pamphlet on
it's own (if you're too cheap to buy the whole package). One reason you
might want to consider buying the whole package is that (among other
things) it includes ETERNAL SALVATION.
Not a bad deal for $30 USD.
(...and your soul)
Speaking of your soul, i've heard that it's not really all that safe
unless you make the occasional visit to IRC to commune with the spirit
of Dobbs. His spirit seems unusually ... uh ... wrathful these days.
Maybe it was a bit of the old seasonal affective disorder or something.
Pity that. I'll be sure to pop into IRC and brighten some spirits in
the new year, though.
Seasons Greetings from the Canadian SubGenius Drinking Team. Have a
safe holiday, and i hope to be in touch with you all in the new year.

It's on my to do list. Really.

The IRC channel was one of the first places I stopped. I don't usually do
IRC or Usenet, actually. Never really found anything interesting until now.

Also, I meant to say, Modemac, AND somebody else, I disremember who,
have already made good pdfs of the Pamphlets; they were posted to
a.b.s. some time ago. I haven't yet put them on SubSITE for download
because of the address problem. And the Other priorities problem. I
intend to make those and the AdSheets permanently downloadable off
SubSITE.
