So I am listening to this CD, and ripping it to MP3's because they're
easier to play back.
I know a little about sound engineering and I can see this CD was
really poorly mastered. And I am curious who mastered this, because
it's a really bad job.
So I look at the liner card and it says this:
"This Compact Disc was manufactured to meet critical quality
standards. If you believe this disc has a manufacturing defect,
please call our Quality Management Department to arrange for a
replacement at 800-257-5858, Ext. 863 or 609-235-4747, Ext. 863.
(New Jersey residents only)"
But it doesn't matter, because I'm invisible.

I once delivered a master to Neil Diamond
at an Atlantic City casino who was using
the pseudonym "Mr. Kohl" (Coal/Diamond,
get it?). I've since wondered if Kohl is
actually the real name and Diamond is the
pseudonym. I dunno.

Ah.. The "New Jersey residents only" was for the 609 number. The have an 800
number, but it probably doesn't work (or they don't want it to work) for
people who might be a local call to the 609 number. The 800 number probably
works all over the US. So, call 'em. what the hell. Passes the time.

ook that makes sense.
I parsed that as "only new jersey residents can get a replacement CD",
which isn't a lot of help anyway if I am trying to complain about
their mastering.
It was like a subtler version of that cartoon where there is a door
labelled "complaints department" and it opens up and there is a sheer
dropoff to the street 20 floors belows.
It didn't seem that subtle at 3 in the morning somehow.
