Author Susan Sontag is dead.

Did anybody here ever read anything she ever
wrote, or did she just win awards for books
that nobody ever read?

--
I don't know what you're talking about.
I've never met you before in my life.
That story sounds like utter bullshit.
I wasn't there and it wasn't me.
I am *not* in denial. Shut up.

Right off, I recollect that she wrote an intro to a huge book
of Artaud's collected works. So, she had that going on.

Only if Kenny G and Keanu Reeves are fired out of cannons at each
other on New Year's Eve. I say force feed them confetti and glitter
for several days before-hand, and just before they're stuffed into
their respective barrels, make one eat 10 pounds of baking soda and
the other drink a gallon of vinegar. You should get quite a POP on
impact.

Well, she was born in 1933. That makes her over 70. So I think she's allowed.

well not that she was not cute or a Budweiser Beer Girl or something,
that's allowed, but she is just SCARY looking.

I mean she's kind of pretty, really, but SCARY. I can't put my finger
on what it is. That hair, I think.

But it's an Annie Leibovitz photo. Annie Leibovitz kind of makes
everybody look scary.

People SHOULD die when they start to get scary looking.
E.g. nenslo should've been stillborn.

THAT'S it, decimate the Church. It'd get pretty quiet with a membership
of 12, 9 of whom hate each other's guts. Smooth move, reaaal smoooooth.

I liked it. She was also a good talk show

Her most famous book was probably "Against Interpretation". She as like
Pynchon: feted endlessly by the NY Times snobs but read by no one else.
I never cared for her, especially after she expressed admiration for
the September 11th terrorists.

She did not "admire" the terrorists. She just said this was the result of the
actions of the US towards to Middle East and Muslims in general.

If you think thtas crazy, I suggest you read "Imperial Hubris".

The CIA guy who ran the Bin Laden unit says the same thing!

Here's what she said:

"Where is the acknowledgment that this was not a 'cowardly' attack on
'civilization' or 'liberty' or 'humanity' or 'the free world' but an
attack on the world's self-proclaimed superpower, undertaken as a
consequence of specific American alliances and actions...In the matter
of courage (a morally neutral virtue): Whatever may be said of the
perpetrators of Tuesday's slaughter, they were not cowards."

She later apologized for this statement in the New Yorker.

I didn't say she was crazy; I said I did not like her because she
admired the terrorists. Her quote sure sounds like admiration to me,
as well as hatred of America. The problem with Sontag, Chomsky, and
the whole left-wing fringe is that they fail to appreciate the fact
that their brand of churlish "bite the hand that feeds you" criticism
of the country in which they have prospered and become famous would
earn them death or imprisonment in many of the regimes they favor.

I, Etcetera is a damn good collection of short stories. She seemed to
have a great time fucking around with the English language while writing
them.
