Bob damn it, I want my fair share of the sexual abuse! I paid my $30, so

Yes, but he only has a small piece of the puzzle.
The Church of the Subgenius was part of a psychological warfare
experiment conducted in the late 70's by the Rand Corporation, under
the direction of the US Defense Department. The experiment was
designed to measure the suceptibility of populations to irrational
belief systems with an eye towards military applications.
Under the program, a number of cults were established and closely
monitored. Some of these later ran out of control (or were allowed to
- this part is not clear) and were, in some cases, terminated. Others
deemed less harmful were left alone in the belief that they would
eventually die out.
At least that's what my sources tell me, although it may just be a
cover story and the program could possibly still exist.

I am amazed that it's still there. This was written years ago and is a
rewrite. The first version expressed the ASTOUNDING REVELATION that
certain aspects of the Church might not be meant ENTIRELY seriously.
After I laffed at him he rewrote it some.
He considers us to be pretty dangerous.
"My biggest problem with the Church of the SubGenius is probably the
way it does things that have historically worked against a society
achieving freedom, awareness, and genuine peace, while convincing
people that it's the ultimate champion of those qualities.
"Basically, you're incredible hypocrites, and most of you never stop
condemning others' hypocrisy long enough to catch the irony. The Church
of the SubGenius may be the pinnacle, to date, of a social mentality
which directly subverts the ideals which humanity's wisest thinkers and
mystics have explained."
The "DUH" that could be thrown back in this poor earnest fellow's face
would be so resounding as to bring down avalanches in the Himalayas.

I don't see how this explains the time I saw Little Fyodor bend over

That's what you get for killfiling me!
If you didn't killfile me, you'd be able to look back over the headers
of my posts and see that they're 86% good news, reviews of movies and
books I thought were good, compliments on folks' writings, recordings
and art, announcements of events, etc. Certainly with the occasional
badfilm pan in there so I don't appear to be COMPLETELY all sweetness
and light.
BUT...
Oh, I forgot, he can't see this response any better than my other
posts. Well, shit.
If you're really that hard up for something pleasant to read, I've been
recommending Stephen Baxter's novel "Evolution" for months. Nobody's
picked up on it besides my son and my dad (who like me also bought
copies for all THEIR sons and dads!)

You CAN be positive, but most people will remain silent because its
such a scary concept to be NICE in this modern, razor-edged world, they
dummy up for fear of being accused of geldinghood. Not me, though, I

Oh, I just needed a breather from coming up with new vehicles people
should have driven or flown into their colons at high speeds. If you
need a booster shot of contempt or vulgarity while I recoup, there are
many fine choices to be had, such as the recent Sterno incursion, that

intestine-twirling byte-bohemians who will be glad to take photos of
themselves flattening the philosophical hamsters of your other
fondly-held beliefs with the cast-iron skillets of their misogyny.

ArWe, did you know that Lake Erie quietly went up for sale last year
and the Church bought it? Because you're a special friend, I can offer
this huge lake to you for WAY less than the Conspiracy would charge for
it. THINK OF THE TOLLS YOU'LL CHARGE. Contact me if you're interested.

Huge lake? What a fraud. Lake Erie is the SMALLEST of the Great lakes.
I can get you Lake Superior at half the price he's charging for Erie.
Hell, I'll even throw in Lake Michigan to sweeten the deal.

By VOLUME, Lake Erie is the smallest of the Great Lakes (average depth
19m). Lake Ontario is slightly smaller by AREA but it's much DEEPER
(average depth 83m), and therefore contains waaaaaaay more WATER.
There are FIVE Great Lakes: Superior, Michigan, Huron, Erie and
Ontario. Do you see Lake St Clair in that list, Yoda? Well, do you?
As a former mariner who sailed those lakes on Arctic Trader, Imperial
Quebec, and Imperial St. Clair (how ironic is that?), I can tell you
it's far more important to know how much water is UNDER you, than how
far it is ACROSS. It's the same with beer, or any other liquid. If
you're SELLING me a lake, which is what Stang purports to do, then I
need to know how much WATER it contains, and as usual with that guy and
his fake church, the reality doesn't "quite" match the description.
If you bought Lake Erie, instead of Lake Ontario because it looked
bigger on a map, you'd be a complete chump. It'd be like buying a
2-4, then finding it only had six beers in it when you got home. The
Russians made the same mistake with the Aral Sea. They thought they
were getting a lot of water for their money because it was a "big"
lake. Now it's mostly a salt flat.
Incidently, the Latin for Polar Bear is Ursus Maritimus, which means
Sea Bear. Water is the polar bear's element, in fact we are classified
as marine mammals. Polar bears know a lot about water.

How much water is underneath you on any body of water is germane to a
submarine & little else. Planning on sinking soon, Popeye? If I were
rowing, buying gas for an outboard motor, or sailing, methinks distance
to ones destination matters more than depth of water underneath.
Drowned in 10 feet is just as drowned as in 100. Besides, after the
shallow lake Erie is drained, there will be more LAND TO SELL
underneath it. So NEENER NEENER NEENER!!

Ahem,
While water level measurements may seem an arcane topic that only a
scientist would get excited about, just ask any skipper in the Great
Lakes how important it is. Water levels in the Great Lakes are at their
lowest point in 35 years and are not predicted to improve this boating
season. A mild winter this year and lack of snow and freezing is
causing more water to evaporate. Lakes Michigan and Huron have dropped
40 inches since 1997, Lake Superior is down six inches below average,
Lake Erie is four inches below average and Lake Ontario is one inch
below average.
The new real-time levels could not come at a better time. The low water
has wreaked havoc on shipping, where clearances through locks and from
a grounding are critical for large ships. But it has also hurt
recreational boating as many docks and launching ramps are sitting on
dry land. Some boaters have run aground in the middle of Lake St.
Clair.

You've obviously never experienced a storm on a shallow lake.
Trust me, depth matters.

No one drowns in Lake Erie if they're wearing my patented Lake Erie
Lifejacket (TM). (Only 29.95 at all participating retailers)
Now stop bothering me, or I'll see you in Maritime Court!

That article is three years old. This winter has been one of the most
normal winters (in terms of precip) that I've seen in years here in the
Detroit area and in Michigan in general. It's been friggin' cold and
I've not even been out and shoveled the latest 5" snowfall that arrived
yesterday yet. I don't think that we're going to be dealing with this
problem for long.

Everything on this NG is old news. I'm just following the trend.

One winter does not make a trend.

10 fathoms is a critical depth for me, I usually set the depth alarm
for that, because more than 10 fathoms, I leave it on LORAN/GPS,
but less I like to slow down and steer the helm with my hook.
I think some big loaded freighters draw more than 2 fathoms.
Up at UBC, I saw a model of the BC islands, some go up 3,500 feet
and the troughs in between are that deep! Sort of like 7,000 mountains
half full of water! Sort of like the fjörds, but without the Blue Parrots.
"A The Plimsoll Line was named after the English politician
Samuel Plimsoll (1824-98), who campaigned for the establishment
of safe loading-limits for shipping. His successful campaign put an
end to the insurance fraud which was sometimes practised i.e. overladen
‘coffin-ships’ were put to sea in the hope that they would sink, thereby
justifying a claim. Through international agreement, a series of Load Lines
has been established and the abbreviations below are painted on all ships:

Maximum draft on the seaway is about 26ft. That's about 4 1/4 fathoms.
Most ocean going ships draw more, which means they can't load full for
a seaway passage. Generally they load to 26ft, then top up in Montreal
(or elsewhere, depending on cargo) for the ocean voyage. They've been
talking for years about expanding the seaway to accomodate larger
ships, a major capital project which, if current water levels persist,
will never see the light of day.

I've heard tell there are secret UFO bases at the bottom of some of
those trenches. Possibly a lost civilization as well, not to mention
a hoard of pirate treasure..... AAARRHHHHH!!!!!!

Not to mention enough aluminum cans to build 12 more Pleasure Saucers.
