Pope John Paul has been rushed to hospital for the second time this month
after suffering renewed breathing problems and Italian media report that
surgeons are preparing to operate on his windpipe.
Italian television reports the Pope has been moved to an operating theatre
and is expected to have a tracheotomy.
A tracheotomy is a procedure in which a small opening is cut into the neck
and windpipe so air can flow directly into the lungs.
