... that 2/3 of all synthesizer demos online sound like someone pumping
the expulsions of a bran-enriched goat's ass through a buggy AI module
that makes it all sound like disco? Its true. Disgusting.

Funny you mention that. I've been shopping for some new toys and every
online demo is an identical overproduced disco/rave/trance mp3.
The grand piano sample disk demos always feature some amazing classical
pianist buried in reverb. I want to hear it simple and clean, not buried in
verb and pyrotechnic speed.
Why don't they just run through the patches? I don't care if they fuckin
play Heart & Soul, I'm only interested in hearing the instrument- not their
chops and production skills!
Also, I was on one demo site and the fine print mentioned that the recording
also included about 90 other instruments (not included), and a dozen studio
musicians. So how the hell do I know what I'm supposed to be listening for?
I just bought SampleTank II and it sounded much better on the web demos.
It's a bit on the thin and wimpy side, IMHO.

The evil embedded subsonic signal that forces you to buy their crap via
post-hypnotic suggestion? That's how most things are sold, including
your various imagined rights, freedoms and right to litigation after
illness, injury or gooey death.
The ONE synth demo that's been on the mark was/is for the Novation KS4
and 5. It was billed as a sort of techno-slanted synth, but it includes
some great electric piano and organ hybrids, as well as squonked-out
arpeggios and pads. That's more like it: truth in advertising.

That's exactly why I am wary of plug-ins in general. As with anything
else, you should probably plan ahead for the inevitable "Oh by the way,
you'll also need this and these and those." ST II is probably not at all
a bad product, but thinking in terms of stuff like MOTU's Mach Five,
where you can stack sounds up like a sumbitch, is the wisest course to
take.
Meanwhile, continue doing those ankle-grabbing exercises so you can
stay limber for your next purchase. I do love music gear, as a lot of it
rocks, but keeping a sense of reality in general is your best defense
against having to squeal like a piggie.
