Latent inhibition and the internally addictive cycle

They found this measurable thing called 'latent
inhibition' which is the ability to 'tune out'
data one perceives in the environment that has no
immediate significance ... in very creative
people and in schizophrenics it was very low. You
can see an article about this here:
http://www.futurepundit.com/archives/001684.html
Actually this says " to ignore stimuli that
experience has shown are irrelevant to its
needs." is what they call 'latent inhibition'.
But I think the stimuli the mind seeks out *is*
relevant to the person's needs,
I guess it depends on what needs they are talking
about. I think the scientists/doctors are looking
at one person's set of needs, while ignoring
others.
One might need to see connections in things to
buoy up one's mood, like treading water. You
become a 'significance junkie'. You become
addicted to the feeling it gives you and this
draws you into it more and more.
Mental illness is basically an internally
contained addictive situation. The chemicals are
already in the brain, the brain has just
'learned' how to get high off itself.
This is the 'condition'.
In the case of 'significance addiction', like
'mania addiction', it's not long before you're
'strung out' i.e. depressed or 'mood crashed' and
in a state where 'nothing is meaningful' or
'everthing is meaningless'.
You've crashed from your high.
What goes up must come down.
So the noticing of the stimuli that's 'irrelevant
to the person's needs', IS actually relevant to
it's need, namely, the need to solve a meaning
crisis, based in chemistry. It's the brain which
has hijacked itself, or has been hijacked by it's
OWN NEED to get high off it's own chemicals. And
you can see this in regular addictive cycles,
along with its own external and internal triggers
and ups and downs. It's just that in mental
illness the brain is using its OWN chemicals.
(It's interesting to note in the question of
perceiving 'meaning'... in an acid trip the brain
is flooded with meaning (and dopamine) so too in
religious experiences... both have their ties to
psychosis. Schizophrenics have notoriously high
dopamine levels. It's as if the mechanism in the
brain that assigns meaning has gone haywire. It's
interesting too that some cultures have a high
degree of 'meaning perception'. A friend of mine
said of American Indians to me: "to them,
EVERYTHING has a meaning". Could this have
something to do with their genes are set up to
handle dopamine?)
But in the case of the mentally ill, whether
schizophrenic or bipolar (two diagnoses, ithey
are now finding have more in common than
previously thought) see:
http://www.journalstar.com/articles/2005/01/25/stat/doc41f597a221206060860190.txt
equilibrium, in this way, is destined to, like a
mobile, swing back and forth, until some external
agent steps in to steady it.
The meds are like weights that are placed on the
arms of a mobile that tends to swing back and
forth in an effort to 'stabilize' it.
The downside of course is that the mobile is
'weighed down' by the weights. And that's not a
natural state either.
So the outside force is constantly 'fiddling'
with the weights, to try and constantly get the
right balance between comfort from being tied
down and stopping the mobile from swinging back
and forth or going through its internal addictive
cycle.
There is also the idea of the brain craving
stimulation in order to get itself out of a
depressed state. The brain is its own junkie and
its own pusher.
NEGATIVE thinking often becomes an addiction in
and of itself. Negative thinking is stimulating,
it provides a brief 'adrenaline rush'.
For example, negative headlines will sell more
papers. And popular news radio shows will give
very lurid, negative stories, which HAVE NO
RELEVANCE TO ONE'S IMMEDIATE 'NEEDS' in order to
provide a stimulant to the brain. This is usually
most evidenct in 'morning drive' shows because
the listeners are on their way to work and need a
mental 'goose' sort of like informational
'coffee'. This is why these broadcasts get the
highest ratings of the day.
In this way, by thinking negatively (i.e.
morbidly fantasizing, 'beating oneself up',
negative self-talk, putting oneself down,
reliving negative experiences or insults, etc.
the normal 'goings about' of depression) one is
trying to 'goose' oneself out of, ironically,
depression, or a 'negative state'.
In this way, negative thinking becomes its own
long term problem and short term solution: just
like a drug.
The overall effect is like trying to dig oneself
out of a mud hole. Or quicksand. The struggling
to do so, only drawing one deeper into the same
hole.
And yet, in bipolar, somehow this all turns into
mania or hypomania, a very very good feeling.
It's as if the mind goes through the suffering as
'work' for a paycheck of mania which it then
spends depleting the bank account once again and
starting the whole cycle again.
What then is the paycheck? What is the currency?
Is it somehow a storage of dopamine or serotonin
that somehow beocmes a surplus after a 'fast'
that is the depression?
Hmmm.

There's not one goddamned research nerd scientist or "doctor" that knows
what the fuck they are talking about when it comes to human life or the
human brain's need for art and stimuli! They would rather we were all Prozac
taking drones that had no need of anything but what they offer us through
their corporate sponsors. Everything else is extraneous to them. That's
because they have no souls. Of course to them a soul is just a delusion too.
Which is why they can make Strontium 90 weapons and personal hygiene
products with the same technology! Yippee! Shit! These guys are worse losers
than even the fundamentalist right-wing shitters. Because they actually use
their brains to fuck us over. Whereas the Right just tries to wash our
brains because they are so filthy with sin.
Also, the docs just want to make sure they always have an excuse to call
artists insane, so they can lock them up or ostracize them from society,
they start of course, with their own kids, then institute their scientific
methodologies in the classroom and churches. Fucking eugenics is all it is.
Well I'm a crazy motherfucking artist and I beat them all!
BWHAHHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA!
