I was thinking that these poor rubes have been the victims
of a comical kind of ignorance. It is still common practice
in some parts of the world to cook over dung fires because
there is no wood. So, when they were instructed to "bake
with dung" it might have meant to cook over a dung fire.
But like that joke about the Foreign Legion guy who literally
"took the camel" instead of taking the camel into town
to the bordello, the poor ingnorant folk started baking poop biscuits!
