I haven't actually looked at the website, but your explanation is
identical with that given by Giacomo Casanova in his memoirs of a number
trick he used to pull on suckers to make them think he was a mystical
psychic magician who should therefore be given large amounts of money or
taken to bed or both. That would make this gag some centuries old. YET
IT STILL FOOLS 'EM.

Every "take this number, do this to the digits, then do this and this
and this..." trick uses the same basic method: construct an invariant
and take their money. There must be hundreds of them involving your year
of birth, your age and the current year. It surprises the hell out of me
that this^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^ still works. I think that they
should teach kids these tricks in grade school to help them break out of
the magic bubble.

Until knowledge can be made genetic we have to train every generation in
the same standard package over and over again - which unfortunately
keeps getting bigger every year.
