It's Valentine's Day and since you're supposed to do something really
special and different with you loved one, Princess Wei and I have
decided to ignore each other all day.

She's arranging her band rehearsal for tonight instead of Wednesday and
I'm going to sit and fuck with my video shit late into the evening.

When we go to bed we will watch some of the "70 Superbowl commercials"
I downloaded the other day. Somebody taped the Superbowl and posted
ONLY THE COMMERCIALS. Since I watch regular TV almost never, I am kind
of looking forward to seeing the most expensive commercials of all time
in a row.

I have to admit, of the 10 I peeked at already, all but one sucked. The
one that didn't suck was for UPS and demonstrated how all the other
commercials suck. If I find any other good ones out of the 70 I'll post
them to a.b.s.

This week in Excremeditation I am reading the rather humorous space
opera novel "Consider Phlebus" by Iain Banks, which came well
recommended by G. Gordon Gordon, and so far it is a rip-roaring read
indeedy. Fans of Hitchhiker's Guide would probably enjoy Banks'
exceedingly playful sf novels set in "the Culture," which is basically
the perfect Utopian future that we were always promised, where the
robots really do do everything for the people and aren't trying to kill
them or turn them into slaves or batteries. In other words it's comedy.
DROLL comedy, very Scottish. Hurtling along dripping with imagination,
unstrapped from the seatbelts of plausibility... fun stuff. The
spaceships in the Culture world are much more intelligent than the
people, and are the most engaging characters. Not recommended for
dumbasses.

A few years ago I was convinced that "Bob's" death (Jan. 22, 1984?)
coincided with that Apple commercial with the athlete hurling a hammer
into the screen of "Big Brother" (Jan. 21, 1984?).

I thought I was soooo intelligent for figuring out that "Bob" was
actually the TV.

Man, those were the days! Boy, was I *really* SubGenius back then!
