I was never in the "angry-tennager" mode until I was in my 30's.
When I was younger, I was 100% Con-Inspired Pink-boy on th eoutside. On
the inside I just KNEW that there was something ugly hiding just behind
the thin veil of our society. I just was not aware enough or "worldly
enough" to figure out what it was.
The turning point for me was my joining the Army in 1978. At that time,
60% of the Amry was absolute losers. The other were made up of angry
Vietnam Vets, "lost boys" who figured the Army would help them find
themselves (which what I ended up becoming) and the 100% All -American
kill everyone for the USA assholes who have taken over the Military
these days.
I must say that most of the Vietman Vets were the most dedicated troops
you ever saw. Both Offciers and NCO's who experinced that war created
the Army that Reagan got credit for. The Army that won Gulf War I was
that army.
These guys knew their jobs, hated brown-nosers, and were 100% dedicated
to their troops. They taught me more about "The Con" before I even knew
there was a "Con".
Ecept for the Senior Leaders, most were not too keen on Reagan and
definatly not keen on his people. They hated Haige as he was on of the
"brown-nose" leaders who got their ranl by kissing the right asses. he
talked alot, but if he had to fight the Siviets as a General, we would
have lost. (Sound Familiar?)
They also hated what while the military budget was icnrease uder
Reagan, most of it went ot wiz-bang Air Force bombers. The reason is
the Air Force had convinced the GOP that only THEY could win anywar!
And the Army and marines were not really important.
While the AIr Force got money thrown at them hand over fist, under
Reagan the troops ahd to buy their own toliet paper. If any tool broke
in your toolbag, it was not replaced (I knew a few track mechanics who
bought their own tools) But all Air Force pilots got cool leather
bomber jackets @ $150 a pop!
The Army also had NO spare parts. To fight Gulf war I, the Army had to
canablise the National Guard and Reserve units to get spare parts.!
But the Air Force got all the Glory fighting a nation whose Air Force
ran away and hid. Lots of "precise surgical strikes" with 500# bombs!
This same thinking is what allowed Osoma to escape Afghanistan (no need
to send troops! We can bomb them! And hire locals!) And allowed Iraq to
turn into the fuck-up it is now.
And expect more to come. Elections really don't matter if the Sunni's
don't want to play. Or the Kurds decide to declare their own
independent homeland (Then Turkey will have to get involved too).
But it made good press and a photo ops for the SOTU on TV!
I have not seen the film, but I feel I don't have to. We are quickly
becoming that society today!
