This is an accurate representation of his performance in Manhattan on March
2 at the Canadian Embassy's McLuhan Lecture (repeated in Berkeley):

But once I joined in at the top of the question period, I forced him to
concentrate on the case he was making for "phatic" communication via McLuhan
versus Tufte's paean to "emphatic" communication which POWERPOINT (as
presently used) was frustrating.

He tightened up and agreed with me.

Then we did a tetrad on POWERPOINT.

All were pleased.
