Why is it that when I have a .avi or movie file that claims to be
700mb in size, my burning program (Sonic MyDvd) tells me it is bigger
than the 4.3 Gb target DVD? Thanks in advance.

You have a Dell I take it? yep I got the same crappy peice of DVD burning
software with my Dell, the problem is that the program converts ANY file you
have, regardless of its current size to 8megs per second, before burning it,
so even a 160 meg file can be too long.

The only thing I can recommend is getting a better DVD burning program.

Don't quote me on this but it may be that your DVD software is trying
to convert the .avi into DV or some other watchable format instead of
just burning the .avi file onto the disk as data.
I am struggling with this one at the moment having divx avi files and
wanting to burn them on DVD. In order to be able to watch them I have
to convert them to DV which expands the file size beyond all reason. I
don't want a cheapo DVD player to play these weird formats so am
sticking with the PS2. I've not worked out a way around this myself so
