How dare those awful movie theaters show documentaries that suggest
Darwin was RIGHT!

For once, I'm less sure that they are being pro-
creationist than they are being anti-science.

While granted Hollywood and the entertainment
industry are uncomfortable embracing religion,
they are also afraid of and fear science.

They much prefer the concepts of magic and superstition,
"disordered thought", to even primitive efforts to explain
the world.

Call it a fascination with instinctual understandings
of things. Either grazing peacefully, or being frightened
and either fleeing or fighting. Just don't think about it.
Thinking hurts.

When the try to explain something, it is always to the
lowest common denominator. They put a picture on the
screen with the caption "Apple", then an actor says,
"Apple", and another actor says "This is an apple", as
if their audience is equally dense and unable to think.

Doesn't *want* to think.

And, when someone does go beyond that, to create something
that needs a little thought, what they want you to think
about is usually something that even if it seems utterly
brilliant to them, is 4th grade wisdom to most people.

I can see why such people just don't grasp science.

someone at ILM should make an Imax film that shows the basic principles
of simple sorcery. and make it look like it works.

if teens thought they could get a partner by sacrificing a can of Pepsi
inside a 7-sided star drawn in ketchup on a dartboard, well, there's
three industries that would get a shot in the arm.

Like "The Craft"?

more like those serious Disney nature documentaries. "And here's Master
Brthrn creating a homonculus. the first stage is to jerk off into a jar
filled with horseshit."

Why not?

I used to read occult newsgroups and not a month would go by without a
teenage kid posting wanting to know how to do one of the spells in
"The Craft". Or the spell to make fireballs shoot from their
fingertips.

It's not a tough house.

Well I don't see why people think they need -any- science after the
middle ages. It just makes you think wrong about God.
