I know a lot of you use Mac's. What would you say are the top three email
clients used by OSX users?

1) Mozilla, which, while still available and WORKING, is no longer being
directly developed/supported, but IS still open to users who want to
diddle with the code and develop better builds;

2) Firefox, its basic replacement, which IS being actively supported;

3) Thunderbird, the stand-alone e-mail module.

And its freeware.

MAIL comes with OSX and is supposed to be pretty good these days. I get
the impression from the trade mags that it's the generally used default
now. UNLESS THEY'RE ON AOL. Then the godawful AOL program is their lot
in life, poor devils.

I use Eudora because it's a hoary old dependable workhorse with a
shitload of filtering capability. It's free in sponsored mode, meaning
there is a little ad onscreen. $30 or so in paid mode. I use SubGenius
Mode whereby it pays me.

Of course many just use browsers and don't know there ARE email
programs. If you need to be able to keep and sort your mail, redirect
downloads and do bulk or batch stuff Eudora is very good. Easy to
configure. I've been happy enough with it that I haven't tried other
ones besides MAIL. MAIL is for folks like my dad. No-nonsense,
super-intuitive, tries to be idiot-proof.

I HATE idiot-proof. For no doubt OBVIOUS reasons.

Yeah, I guess so. In other words, some po' bucka soul sends
you 30 clams, and you blow it on some clapped-our softwarez
that you could have gotten better for freeware or gotten primo warez
being that you're the Whiz of Slack-0-licious warez so but you're gonna
blow $30 on a nooz reader? I'm just kvetching because $30 is a
FAT bag of skag in these parts. Nothing to sneeze at. I'm just sayin'

Wait a minute. I am confused. Perhaps you misread what I put between
the lines.

To quote nu-monet -- "You can BUY software?"

I was imparting that information to the honest person who asked about
mail programs for Mac OSX, not for all the people in the group who have
already been hanging out with pirates for years.

and if you're really hard-core, you can telnet to the mail port and give
it POP3 commands in person. i like the way it says "HELO", just like an
irc newbie with a neural deficit.

Just go "booga booga" with some tawdry bit of jocularity and if they
stare at you as if your pineal gland had popped out on the end of a
forehead tentacle, well, there's yer sign.

Fuck 'em if they can't TAKE a joke, but run like HELL if they don't
even GET it. Fuck 'em TWICE if they think YOU should take a joke, but
suddenly get steaming Nenslo-pants if one is aimed at them. Fuck 'em
THREE times if they're cute and will hold still long enough for
touchdown.

I use Mail. It has _most_ of the fancy Eudora features, such as filters,
which work very well. Mail also works with embedded HTMl better than Eudora,
which I swear is still using some 1994 Mosaic engine.

Thos are two of the biggies. However, for the third, don't count out
Microsoft. Entourage is much better then Outlook. It costs a buttload,
though.

Well yeah, you got that right. HTML looks like microfilm on Eudora.

Entourage, that's the other one I'm always hearing about.

Maybe I should think about switching over to Mail... but... I've been
using Eudora for TEN YEARS!!
