Does the Israel Defense Forces believe incoming recruits
and soldiers who play Dungeons and Dragons are unfit for
elite units? Ynetnews has learned that 18-year-olds who
tell recruiters they play the popular fantasy game are
automatically given low security clearance.

"They're detached from reality and suscepitble to
influence," the army says.

Fans of the popular role-playing game had spoken of rumors
of this strange policy by the IDF, but now the army has
confirmed that it has a negative image of teens who play
the game and labels them as problematic in regard to their
draft status.

So if you like fantasy games, go see the military
psychologist...

So what you're saying is, 75-80% of the U.S. military is unfit for
service in the Israeli military?

If you include "By grunts, for grunts" RPG's like Traveller and
Twilight 2000, it gets closer to 95%

Notice how the article has several photographs of youths in armour fighting
with swords. Hands up who actually plays D&D like that...? Uh-huh. Thought
so.

Personally I think it's a little ironic that they have links to
kaballah sites mixed in with their article about people being detached
from reality.

According to the last paragraph in the story, apparently hundreds of
Israelis do. It's about how they are going to a forest in the south
of Israel for a LARP, after all.

I know, but people who are LARP-ing are not really playing D&D. They are two
separate activities, about as similar as... football and chess. As the main
thrust of the article is about D&D, it's very misleading.

Maybe more like playing baseball vs. playing fantasy basebell.
Or playing football vs. playing Madden.

Sounds much easier than trying to convince them that you are gay.
