Hour of Slack 967 Pre-Election Halloween Horror
This episode is recorded Halloween night, before the election, live in
the WCSB studio, interspersed with audio collages of the Emperor at His
Worst, and songs of protesticles from Lonesome Cowboy Dave recorded
live at the Beachland Ballroom. One could perhaps accuse this
particular episode of having a slightly more liberal bias than most.
Other radio programmers and last-minute brainwashers might enjoy
re-using the heavily re-used Bush cut-ups and mix-downs contained
herein... some by Phineas Narco, some Stang, much F. LeMur. Music by
The Rudy Scwartz Project is also represented, adding a dash of grace

First we record the show on the worst Chinese cassette tape we can
find. 9 for a dollar at the Dollar Store usually. We copy that to the
computer at 16mz mono. We then make the lowest-rez possible mp3, mono,
1 kbps, 11 hz... I then blow that up to the low-rez OGGs that you
download. Then I take that really shitty OGG, and blow that up to the
slightly higher bit-rate stereo OGG that you can download. Then from
that we make the stereo mp3s -- well they're stereo copies of a mono
track -- and from THOSE we make the CDs that are mailed to the station.
Last of all I make a version, using just the soundtrack part of a $300
HDTV holocube, for my personal archive. It's expensive but then I feel
like I can throw away the 7 cent master cassette, which saves storage
space, so I figure we're coming out ahead.
That should answer your question. They're all essentially identical to
the 8 mz, .3 kbps mono master made from the shitty mono Chinese
cassette recorded in a hand-held Sears mono dictation machine (in
Long-Play mode, of course).
Why else would we go to all the trouble of offering them in two formats
covering three file sizes? You think we're fucking STUPID??

That would explain it. When the show starts out it sounds like a
William F Buckley panel discussion. I guess all the conversions kind
of distort things.
