I've heard of Americans in Novosibirsk and Brits in Hong Kong, but I

I have a 22 year old friend from Beijing who speaks better English than
I do. I don't think you'll need more than a few catch phrases to get
by. Besides, what use is knowing a language if you can't READ it, and
what are you going to do - learn all 8000 basic characters just to read
a fucking newspaper?

of the target. In that sense, China is one of those B-17's going down
in flames on 12 O'clock High.
My advice: learn Hindi. You won't need it either, but you'll make a
HUGE impression, especially if you can sing some well know songs.
Lots of Goyim speak Chinese already. NOBODY speaks Hindi.
India is the next "big thing" - no flash in the pan like China, but a
long term bootstrapping operation with an actual plan. China is just
the mirror of America. To paraphrase Dennis Hopper in Apocalypse Now:

If you're thinking far, far ahead, then Russia. Simple really. They
