The Mystery of "0x800ccc0d" (and all the "0x800ccc0d" variants)

This one's a real puzzler. Search on it in Google. Go to the cached
copy (the current page is now gone). Not only is 0x800ccc0d an error
code for Outlook Express but, and I find this to be completely
unbelievable and outrageous, the page contains

HUNDREDS OF LIVE SOCIAL SECURITY NUMBERS (!)

mixed in with all the rest of the Hex, Binary, and all the other
alleged "gibberish".

Geeks 'round the world have tried to guess its meaning. The jury is
still out but the fact that there are

HUNDREDS OF LIVE SOCIAL SECURITY NUMBERS (!)

in there adds another layer to the mystery, doesn't it? I should say
it does! I wonder if the Feds have figured out how

HUNDREDS OF LIVE SOCIAL SECURITY NUMBERS (!)

got stuck inside this page and on the hundreds of variants of this
page. A REAL PUZZLER, I TELLS YA!

You don't want to look at the digits of pi or e then, there's loads of
them in those two transcendental numbers too. Oops, I've said too much
already.

Turn off Outlook and use another newsreader like everyone else has

Not as mysterious as the millions of Bush's illegals that don't pay

OHMIGOD!

I took your advice and searched google:

http://www.google.com/search?hl=en&lr=&q=0x800ccc0d+social+security&btnG=Search

And there are NO references to this!

Which PROVES not only that it's TRUE, but that THEY have cunningly
OBLITERATED EVERY REFERENCE TO IT!

You fucking idiot.

I understand. You're freaked. You actually saw YOUR social inside one
of the "0x800ccc0d" variants. Your first reaction is one of disbelief.
The next step is to establish some sort of humorous diversion
(tee-hee!). I get that. And while I understand your shock and dismay
(and your initial reaction), no amount of joking around about this
gets any of us away from the fact that there are

HUNDREDS OF LIVE SOCIAL SECURITY NUMBERS IN THERE (!)

And the reason this is being cross-posted to four DIFFERENT groups is?

I was trying to ignore this thread but obviously you people are "too
smart" to realize that usenet isn't supposed to have a multicast for

Usenet is an outlet for people with chips on their SHOULDERS. That'll
always get a lot more mileage than a relatively small number of abuses
involving kiped soc.-sec. numbers. I'm sure that's will be of great
comfort to those who had some scumbag buy a Hummer with their VISA card,
but fortunately for me, I can sit here and crap on all of you
anonymously. Is this a great country or WHAT?

I used to be indifferent to that, but now having 4 Canadian friends and
our recent election under my belt, the idea of merely having to put up
with colder weather and a little French-based arrogance seems less
diverting all the time. Also, I really like your bacon. Not yours
personally, Canada's.

Psst. English speaking Canadians are none too fond of Quebecors either.
What with their language laws, anti-competitive taxation, distinct
society and the whining little "do what we want or we will hold another
referendum".

Frankly I saw cut the bridges to Quebec and write them off as a bad
experiment in diplomacy...Of course this is why I'm not a politician.

I was recently in France were the jist of what I got is they don't think
too highly of them either. Something about using their culture as a
weapon of hate makes the real French wanna distance themselves. Can't
say that I blame them.

Well, one can always move to West Canada, where its more rednecky,
but also has a high libertarian "government off our backs" ambience.
But you also have grizzlies.

Well, as long as they are not all gay and prone to enter town with
aggressive sexual intent, it might be worth a look.

So the firefox release parties were devoid of geeks? I think not!

Sorry, I lost track of all that, wondering how it would appear on the
Visa bill. Would it say "Hummer," like the lumbering vehicle, or
"personal service," or just plain "blowjob?" What if their wife or
girlfriend sees that? It would have to be one hell of a fellation to
fetch as high a price as a motor vehicle. Surely she will wonder
mightily. It would take one HELL of a man to do a tap dance that would
dissuade all but the most mentally lacking woman from serving the dog
his testes on crackers with a toothpick through them. The whole thing
just smells mighty fishy, I tell you. MIGHTY fishy.

I find it hard to escape the vague feeling that most of you have
recently had sexual congress with a chicken.... perhaps all with the
SAME chicken. You could have bumper stickers and t-shirts made: "Say it
loud, I cluster-fuck cluck and I'm PROUD!"

Well, actually, that Subgenius thing has tried the same route for years
and its CEO is still in debt up to his cloaca. Anyway, leave the
chickens alone, that's nasty.

Actually, this was originally a GEEK topic in many different GEEK

Oh, so then I guess we should be focused on YOUR HIDEOUSLY TWISTED

I am indirectly; I have a UK passport, type UK English but I must admit my spoken
accent seesaws a bit and mostly is Swiss by osmosis :)

Besides, I was rather trying to avoid "Y'all know, that guy reminds me of a phone
call I got recently from a dude" etc etc :)

I didn't even bother to look.

That much is true, and it occurred almost immediately after reading the
first few lines of your post.

You misunderstood me. I was pointing out that you are a loon. Not a
diversion, but rather a commentary.

I can write an app that will generate all possible social security numbers
in about 5 minutes, including time to boot up the PC. What's your point?

My point is (still) that there are actually

HUNDREDS OF LIVE SOCIAL SECURITY NUMBERS IN THERE (!)

and that this represents a MAJOR violation of people's privacy. The
only things that we don't know are

WHO POSTED THEM?

and

WHERE DID THEY GET THEM FROM?

and

WHY DID THEY DO IT?

One of the things we do know: YOU ARE IN DENIAL. Hey, it's your
choice. Running away from reality is probably something you're
accustomed to doing. It's become a life-style choice for you. It's
probably a safe route to take. For you, at least. Stay safe, little
one, stay safe...

Say, are you any relation to CLINT?

Not in the slightest. Anyone that wants to find out a SSN can do it
in very short order these days.

There is no privacy anymore. Get used to it.

I feel I should share this with everyone here,
it seems that if you add numbers together they can be used
to form things like your telephone number or your house number
I was SHOCKED to find out that if 2 is added to 2 then you get 4 which
is my house number!

NUMBERS CAN BE ADDED TOGETHER TO FORM OTHER NUMBERS RELEVANT TO YOU (!)

Not only do you have the numbers 2 and 4 but this number base provides
TEN (10) digits for you to misuse and form together into larger numbers

Before you people who live at houses with a number such as 10A think
you are safe think again, the conspirators realized that 0-9 was not
enough so they created the HEXADECIMAL system that provides
0123456789ABCDEF

NUMBERS AND LETTERS CAN BE USED TOGETHER TO FORM EVEN MORE THINGS
RELEVANT TO YOU (!)

The Alphabet conspiracy is beyond the scope of this post but more
information can be found on this at

That seems to be a standard reply for you. Can't you

That'll NEVER work; I only have a 40 gb hard drive. I'd need a cascade
of at least 24 180 gb models to even get through the Gs.

Some other stuff I'm still (yes, still!) toying around with:

I - The expression X(2) - which has value [1,1,1,1]). It's the set of

II - The expression WH(X(2),4) - which computes the primitive Hodge
numbers of a quartic surface.

III - As well as the following 22 manifolds -
