"A Hollywood animated feature about Islam's Prophet Mohammad is due to
debut in 37 North American cities on Nov. 14, a holiday in the Muslim
world that marks the end of the holy month of Ramadan. The film,
entitled 'Muhammad: The Last Prophet,' had originally been set to
premiere here three years ago but was shelved following the Sept. 11
attacks. It was produced by RichCrest Animation Studios and directed
by Richard Rich, whose previous films included the animated 'The King
and I' and 'The Fox and the Hound.' The Arab all-news channel
al-Jazeera on Thursday quoted John Voll, director of Georgetown
University's Center for Muslim-Christian Understanding, as saying:
'The movie is especially relevant in the current time when so much of
the media presentations of Muslims and Muslim life is so negative.'"

Let's see here...first of all, this movie will probably be sent to
art-house theaters, as I can't possibly see how any Hollywood movie
mogul would think this would have a chance. Second, I thought Islamic
law forbids any depiction of the Prophet (Muhammad) from actually
showing his *face.* The few pictures I've seen of him from over the
centuries usually depict him as a human figure with a completely blank
face, with his head surrounded by a flame (like Jesus' eternal halo or
glow in all those paintings). So this movie could easily be protested
like any movie portrayal of Jesus has been.

And "The Swan Princess" movies. And "The Scarecrow". And "The Trumpet of
the Swan". Doesn't that make you really anticipate this movie?

Mohammed will not be depicted in the movie. Instead there'll be a lot of
scenes with the camera angle taken from Mohammed's own point of view.

That's...quite a color scheme Richard Rich came up for the Kaaba....

Actually, today IS the first day of Ramadan. That's good to know. I wish
everyone a happy holiday then.

Some years ago, there was a truly magnificant
Islamic bulldada film. I don't know the name or
where it was produced, possibly Pakistan, but it
contained several amazing scenes.

It was about a group of good Moslems who were
fighting the Satanic Salman Rushdie, portrayed as
an evil super-villain in the most scene-chewing,
hammy, and utterly hilarious way possible. And
whenever he would kill one of them, he would soak
a hankie in their blood and sniff it!

And not just sniff the blood soaked hankie, but
snort the Hell out of it and get off with eye-
rolling orgasmic pleasure, while laughing insanely.

Anyway, he kills ALL of the good guys. But then,
at the very last minute, as he does a Pee Wee
Herman victory dance with his blood soaked hankie,
an aerial, spinning, burning Koran appears in the
sky over his head and incinerates him.

I hate when that happens.

The few abortive attempts to release films on that topic have invariably
provoked death threats. Remember Mohammed, Messenger of God?

Remember "Gigli?" That yielded a few, too. I hear its so bad, you'd
rather watch a loop of Jack Nicholson and Kathy Bates doing it in a
see-through plexiglas barrel, hurricane-style.
