Great. A hand puppet telling you to kill.

Well, it's better than Barney, I guess.

how does one retrieve the contents and store them safely on their own
machine, for archival purposes? media player 9 hides it somewhere in the
cache (wherever the hell that is these days), and even media player
classic falls to the floor and wets its pants.

Ooo. MP9 is just plain eevil and classic
is just barely able to cut mustard. But
anyway, what you need is a d/l controller,
sometimes called "download acclerators".

They are small progs that act as intermediaries,
and are able to override simple html commands
of "stream" instead of file transfer. If they
are true "streaming" files, it won't work, since
they refer you to an html document and then to
a streaming only file format. But the great
majority of files out there will be snagged by
a d/l controller, giving you the choice of
whether to stream or d/l.

They also have the bonus advantage of d/l on
up to four d/l 'tracks', I guess you would call
them, which can definitely speed up your d/l.

One word of warning, that you should shop around
for your d/l accelerator, as they often are loaded
with spyware.

I don't know what you're talking about.
I've never met you before in my life.
That story sounds like utter bullshit.
I wasn't there and it wasn't me.
I am *not* in denial. Shut up.

I'm pretty happy with a freeware version of NetTransport--
no crap attached. Also, it will use proxies, and can save
streaming programs with the "options" menu. It will resume
interupted d/l's except streaming. Too, it has a "referrer"
slot that you can usually leave blank, but in case of front-door
security, you can try loading the front part/s of the URL
because self-refer often gets through. Sometimes a different
referrer is necessary for negotiating this.

There's another one called "StreamBox" which has a
"Flying Raichu VCR" crack attachment for anonymous proxie
accessing, and will d/l some of the "streaming-only" music
and vids, as well as some of the Real Audio variants.

Between these too softwares, I am happily d/l'ing my
HD's to capacity!

i have a fairly old version of Jetcar, which, i know, has some kind of
spyware built into it. i don't really care what it tells them; i don't
keep anything important on my machine.

aside from the Dark Reign 2 save-games that set up shots of swarms of
troops coming over various hills. i have this delusion of recording the
output and sending it to the people who do Red Vs Blue.
