Baby scan link to brain damage

ULTRASOUND scans on pregnant women may make
their children more vulnerable to brain damage,
according to the largest survey of the effects
of scanning yet undertaken. The research, to be
discussed at a meeting of ultrasound experts in
Edinburgh this week, found that men whose
mothers were scanned were more likely to be
left-handed than those whose mothers did not
undergo the procedure. Scanning is designed to
find possible defects in unborn babies.

The link the researchers found suggests that
male babies with a genetic predisposition to
being right-handed may have become left-handed
because of mild brain damage. The Edinburgh
meeting will discuss calls for studies to
establish whether scans also cause other, less
easily detectable harm.

The research, reported in the latest issue of
Epidemiology, says: "The present results suggest
a 30% increase in risk of left-handedness among
boys prenatally exposed to ultrasound. If this
association reflects brain injury, as many as
one in 50 male foetuses prenatally exposed to
ultrasound are affected."

Professor Juni Palmgren, a member of the Swedish
team that conducted the study, said: "I would
urge people not to refuse to have ultrasound,
as the risk of brain damage is only a
possibility. But this is an interesting
finding."

The research adds to concerns raised by studies
in the 1990s that linked scans to exposure to
growth retardation, dyslexia and a high
incidence of left-handedness. The current
study focused on men because the male brain
is especially at risk as it continues to
develop in the womb later than the female brain.

So lefties are brain damaged? Why are they smarter than righties, then? Is
that a sign of brain damage? I bet there's a high instance of lefties on
this board.

Well, we of Sharon have long recognized that
defective left-hander scum are inherently
inferior to we right-handers, their rightful
masters.

We have the hand of the devil and can curse you into oblivion. Try thinking
with the other half of your brain, as well.

That's the sort of terroristic ranting that we
have learned to expect from Lokai and his murderous,
traitorous, left-handed followers. Those people
that have plunged our entire world into a bloody
civil war.

Okay, that explains why my two male cousins may be southpaws (I am as well,
but this study isn't about females).
Now, can someone explain how this also made them supreme assholes?
