Every Thursday night at midnight, listeners of WCSB-FM in Cleveland were subjected to a type of improvisational radio little heard or understood outside of The Church of the SubGenius since The Firesign Theater airred Dear Friends. (Negativland's Over the Edge and Puzzling Evidence on KPFA-Berkeley are probably also comparable.) Einstein's Secret Orchestra maestro, the late Prof. Chas Smith, kneehair victim Lonesome Cowboy Dave and Rev. Ivan Stang came to grips weekly with the most horrifying issues of our times, such as the people who call this particular show; THE HOUR OF SLACK featured the liveliest excerpts from that live show, and this CD is a compilation of the 20 very best of THOSE sequences.
