subG NOT the first!

To get into the Mormon Tabernacle in Salt Lake City you must show your
"Credit Card" -- a plastic card with a magnetic stripe which is read
electronically to ensure that you have paid your tithe and that you have
not been excommunicated (I learned this from my aunt in Salt Lake who
was excommunicated for marrying my uncle, whose skin is the wrong
colour).

I tried an American Express Platinum card but it was rejected, even
though the bill had been paid. Similarly BayBank, Visa and Validine
each failed to unlock the door.

So maybe the Mormons thought of it first, but it is still the unbiased
subG who accept visa and old-fashioned cash (I thought of trying to tear
some up and jam it into the reader in the hopes of either triggering the
mechanism or trapping people inside, but I was approached by a concerned
witness and therefore retired).

The reV most holy of the gniksam drawkcab.

PS: I believe the tabernacle will open if you offer the door a howitzer
shell. Explosive technology also appears to be popular with the
Latter Day Saints.
