I attended the "ALBERT HOFMANN IN AMERICA: Celebrating 50 Years of
Consciousness Research" event in Los Angeles, and I'm forwarding some
of the information because I know some of you would want to hear it.
The event featured lectures by Terence McKenna, Stanley Krippner,
Andrew Weil, John C. Lilly, and Albert Hofmann himself. Unfortunately,
Laura Huxley could not attend. There was also live music.
A staggering two thousand or so people filled the hall at The Scottish
Rite Temple in Los Angeles. It was also the inauguration of The Albert
Hofmann Foundation, "an archive and information center dedicated to the
scientific study of human consciousness", and future fund-raising
events are being planned: an LSD art exhibition, music, etc.

THE ALBERT HOFMANN FOUNDATION is a California non-profit educa-
tional corporation. The primary objective of the organization is
to establish and maintain a world information center and research
library devoted to the study and exploration of human conscious-
ness. It will function solely as a library, archive and informa-
tion center, taking no doctrinaire or political position of any
kind. The foundation does not sanction or advocate the use of
unauthorized substances, we merely wish to prepare for and await
a time when qualified scientific investigators may once again ex-
plore and fulfill the beneficial promise of consciousness-
expanding substances.
Thousands of scientific articles have been published on the
therapeutic uses of mind-altering substances such as LSD. Unfor-
tunately, the information is scattered and isolated and in danger
of being lost or destroyed. Collected and organized, this data
would provide an extremely valuable resource for future research-
ers and historians. The purpose of The Albert Hofmann Foundation
is to gather, codify and keep safe these unique records, and to
make them accessible to qualified investigators, as well as in-
terested members of the public.
But we need your help. It takes enormous resources to create a
library. We need to lease facilities large enough for storage
and conferences and seminars. We need funds to search out and
possibly purchase additional records, we need computer equipment,
reproduction equipment, furniture. We need to employ programmers
and qualified curators and librarians. We need your support.

BTW, Lilly was just terrific; his alien/dick-in-hand/floatation/LSD
story was great. I think you can get the whole evening on tape if
you're really into it. Hofmann does *not* appear to be anything like
82... And, newsflash: 3 weeks ago or so, LSD was made legal in
Switzerland for use in therapy.
