Some slices from the latest "Secular Humanist Bulletin", which had some
interesting news stories (quiz: attempt to guess which of the articles
was in the "humor" section).
you have an address for the SHB?

Well, I too am going to have to get myself off of Christia, due to my
aversion to being violently sick every morning whilst reading my mail.
Us "Bob"ist moles on Christia have, however, managed to create quite a
furor resulting in quite a few resignations. Maybe some of us could
volunteer to check this Trumpet list out and do the same over there?
Although my cover is not entirely blown, some of the good people on
Christia are beginning to suspect something ...
I'm about to fire my final shot on Christia, which will probably center
around the interesting fact that "Jesus" was proclaimed a God rather than a
mortal Prophet by vote at the Council of Nicea, AD325 (Jesus won, 218 votes
to 2). The Emperor Constantine then carried on the good work of his
predecessor Diocletian by confiscating and destroying all works that
challenged the new 'orthodox' teachings. He then commisioned and financed
new copies of the Bible. Of the five thousand early manuscript versions of
the New Testament in existance, not one pre-dates the fourth century
(although we have yet to find out about the Codex Sinaiticus). This
masterpiece of political expediency unified the Sol Invictus and Mithrain
crowds with early Christians, thus making his job about six thousand times
easier (and everting a very bloody war). It also means that the whole of
the new testemant, including the so called 'synoptic' gospels, is a
carefully edited and selected collection, designed and produced for
political reasons by people with heavy vested interests.
Yours in slack,

It seems the Republicans have been circulating rumors that the new
(Democratic) Speaker of the House is gay. Rep. Barney Frank (who is
openly gay) has publicly threatened to name a number of prominent gay
Republicans, if they don't stop the inuendos. What fun!
In a broader sense, though, this should do some good by sensitizing
people a bit to the fact that there are a *lot* gays in the world.
Politics keeps getting weirder...

TRB in this week's New Republic contains a quote from Dan Quayle:
Dan Quayle, attempting to quote the motto of the United Negro College fund
(which is "A mind is a terrible thing to waste.") said:
"What a waste it is to lose one's mind, or not to have one."
