They did it again. Indoors. In a small space.

Mark Pauline opened his new show at Artspace (Folsom between 8th and
9th) last Tuesday. It drew a crowd of about 150, about ten times the
capacity of the space. He had the big carbide cannon working again. Indoors.
Earplugs were provided, but weren't really sufficient. We got into the
building but not all the way into the gallery; the crowd was too dense.
So we went outside and over to Artspace Annex, where there is an excellent
high-tech video sculpture show, planning to go back when the crowd had
thinned. Unfortunately, when Melissa and I returned, there were three fire
trucks, two ambulances, and two police cars outside the gallery. This is a
normal SFFD first-alarm dispatch, not an indication of a major disaster. So
we weren't too worried. It turned out that someone had a bloody nose from
getting too close to the giant banging metal balls. (SRL fans may remember
this unit from the SFIA-affiliated show on Valencia a few months back.)
However, the SFFD decided to limit attendance to 8 persons in the show at
one time, and there were still about a hundred people in line. So we
never did see the show close-up.

The show is continuing, unless the SFFD closes them down again. Call
Artspace for times. Recommended: ear protection, eye protection,
hard hat.
