DORTCH SENTENCED TO 8 YEARS
...A former top aide to disgraced evangelist Jim Bakker was sentenced
yesterday by a federal judge in Chalotte, NC, to eight years in prison
and ordered to pay $200,000 fine for defrauding the public through his
association in the now bankrupt PTL ministry.
Richard Dortch, executive vice president of Bakker's PTL organization
...pleaded guilty earlier this month to reduced charges of fraud and
conspiracy after agreeing to testify for the prosecution against his former
boss. Bakker's own trial began in Charlotte on Monday.
...He had been named along with Bakker in a 24-count indictment last
December that charged, among other things, that the PTL leaders diverted
$4 million to their own pockets. (Washington Post, 8/25/89)

An ultra-pink accosted me in the Dallas (!) airport asking for money so
that Christian Clowns could go to hospitals and harass children. When I
said no, he *blessed* me! A sad day in Dobbstown...
