The Attitude Is Not Cavalier
To the Editor:
Although the phrase "crucifix in a jar of urine" has been used a
great deal to describe a piece of mine ["Border Skirmish: Art and
Politics," Nov. 19], it is inaccurate. The crucifix was submerged in a
plexiglass tank built specially for the photograph. The photograph was
taken close up, so the edges of the tank are not in the picture frame.
The tank is large and holds two and a half gallons of liquid.
The "jar" phrase implies a cavalier attitude on my part, which is
not the case.
