The following appears on p.21 of the February 1990 IEEE Reflector, in a
black-bordered box:

IN MEMORIAM

In memory of fourteen women executed in
Montreal for being women studying engineering.

February 18-24 is National Engineers' Week 1990,
an opportunity to cultivate interest in engineering
among the nation's youth.

"You are cordially invited to view

"New T.V. Commercials -- dozens of them -- from Japan, England, Singapore,
Holland and Germany -- and more...

"PLUS Hundreds of Magazine Ads and Campaigns from Sweden, Korea, Italy and
the United Kingdom -- and more...

"PLUS Newspaper ads from Germany, Turkey, France and more...

"PLUS Posters, Photographs, New Visual Techniques -- and more -- all in full
color.

"AN EXCITING, DYNAMIC COLLECTION OF THE WORLD'S BEST CREATIVE THINKING
BROUGHT TO YOUR DESK -- EVERY OTHER MONTH -- IN INTERNATIONAL ARCHIVE:
'The Most Powerful Creative Weapon...in the War for Ideas.'"

This looks like a wonderful catalog of Con activity worldwide. I don't
think I could stand receiving it (after all, "each issue of International
Archive contains nearly 100 large size pages printed on extra heavy coated
stock. Virtually every page is in full color.") but if some other SubG
has a strong constitution and a masochistic bent, it's just $39.97 for
a year (6 issues). "For even faster service, call this number: (212)245-0981"
For my part, I think I'll send 'em a DobbsHead in their postpaid reply
envelope.

Wow! Things sure have gotten quiet around here after the last day or so!

I'm reminded of that little kid (Billy Moomey?) in the old Twilight Zone
episode -- the little boy with the terrible psychic powers who
"disappeared" the whole world except for his family and neighbors,
remember? He held them all in absolute slavery for fear of what he
might do to them. "It's good that you made it snow in August, isn't
everybody? Real good."

Now that I've said that, I wonder what I'll get turned into before
getting sent "out into the cornfield" ?

your humble and loveable,

-- Shoe-shine Boy
