ASPEN, Colo. (AP) -- Hunter S. Thompson, cleared on drug, explosives and
sexual assault charges, celebrated with a glass of water, which he poured on his
head.
The "gonzo" journalist doused himself Thursday in an Aspen courtroom after a
judge dismissed the charges at the request of prosecutors.
Gail Palmer-Slater, an entrepreneur and former porn film producer, had
accused Thompson, 53, of grabbing her breast and throwing a drink at her when
she visited his Woody Creek home Feb. 21.
Thompson was bound over for trial last week on three felony counts of
possession of a controlled substance and one of unlawful possession of
incendiary devices. He also faced misdemeanor charges of sexual assault, simple
assault and marijuana possession.
"I didn't beat up that woman. She came to my house and got sloppy and rude.
If the taxi would have come sooner, this never would have happened," Thompson
said.
Prosecutor Chip McCarory said he requested dismissal of the charges because
he didn't think the case would hold up in court.
