please forgive the lateness of this reaction, but...
I just read an article that was posted on usenet about
a month ago, and frankly I was suprised.

I thought this was an interesting tidbit:

----------------------------------------------------------------
>From Houston Chronicle, Sunday, June 10, 1990
> written by Joe Abernathy

"...This is the intellectual atmosphere that gave electronic
life to the Church of the Subgenius, a Dallas cult ostensibly
formed to ridicule cults. Members, who can be legally
ordained, worship a yuppie deity called "Bob".

The Media Lab's Subgenius Digest is an interactive church
newsletter. It provides the phone numbers of practicing
Christians, along with tips on how best to harass them --
all in the name of "Bob"..."

----------------------------------------------------------------

The article's main point is that internet is a porno ring
of sorts. It bases this mostly on alt.sex popularity. It
points out that this "porno ring" is funded by the Government.

The piece I cut out was in the middle of him complaining about
The Media Lab being used for questionable purposes.
