There was supposed a ``42--letter'' name of God of great power known
to cabalists of extreme learning and purity---the sort who could tap walls
for wine, and conjure oxen out of nothing for the Sabbath.
One such supposedly bound Satan, and (to force Messiah into coming)
was going to bring him into the holy land. Almost there, the Enemy asked
the tsaddik to have pity on him, and to please give him a pinch of snuff.
This was done, Satan breathed fire on it, it became as a burnt offering to
him, and the tsaddik and his followers died.
