Satellite Porn Firm To Stop Broadcasts
Owners plead guilty to obscenity charges

Washington
The owners of the nation's only satellite pornography network, the
American Exxxstasy channel, agreed yesterday to plead guilty to felony
obscenity charges and to cease operations.
Home Dish Only Satellite Networks Inc. entered its plea in Buffalo, N.Y.,
and agreed to pay $150,000 in fines. The network had beamed sex movies
such as "Hard Core Girlfriends" and "Ramb-Ohh Sex Platoon" tp 30,000
subscribers with their own satellite dishes until investigators pulled
the plug on the operation in March.
The company pleaded guilty to one felony count of transmitting an obscene
movie, "Hot Shorts," on Feb. 25, 1990. Assistant U.S. Attorney Richard
N.W. Lambert described the film as "nothing but the graphic portrayal of
sex acts without any kind of dialogue or story line."
The company's operators, Paul L. Klein and Jeffrey Younger, promised to
refrain forever from promoting or distributing sexually explicit films or
publications.
Home Dish Only transmitted from its Buffalo office to a satellite link-up
station operated by U.S. Satellite Inc. in Salt Lake City, which relayed
the signal to the GTE Spacenet Corp. satellite. The service cost
subscribers #300 a year.
Federal prosecutors decided not to charg Klein and Younger individually
because of their willingness to stay out of the business and to cooperate
with investigators.
The company agreed to turn over its film library for destruction, and
Klein and Younger will be questioned about where they obtained the films
to help prosecutors identify the producers.
The prosecution was the first under a 1988 federal law prohibiting
satellite and cable broadcasting of obscenity.
