If you live along one of those pesky fault lines, you might have just
a wee case of the hitters before you go to sleep at night. Well,
worry no more. Don MacDonald, a San Francisco architect, has designed
a "quake bed" that can protect you inc case of The Big One. Thought
it has virtually all thge features you would need to live throught a
massive quake, getting the bed into the house might be a problem.
There's the 600-pound steel canopy, for instance, which is designed to
keep the roof above your head in the event of a really big shock.
Under the mattress there's room to store a fire extingtuisher, water,
a chemical toilet, books, a heater, and food. If there's enough
demand, MacDonald plans to sell the beds for $2,500 to $3,000. No
word on whether a deluxe model will include a life raft, in case
California falls into the sea.

Another article mentions "the New York-based Center for the Strange",
which polls "witches" for predictions about the future.
