Indeedy-deed! Said article was hilarious in the extreme. I think the
best part was the "Lloyds Bank Turd"! Worth a trip to your local
library if you don't get it regularly (so to speak)...

Well, someone at the Hilltop Steak House must have greased "Bob"'s palm with a
consulting contract for advice on how to recoup the cost of all those
mutilated fiberglass steers from mid-July.
Money well spent, of course.
They're selling T-shirts to commemorate the event ($8.00/ea).
On the front of T-shirt #1:
Survivor
<Drawing of a steer>
Cow Caper '91
On the front of T-shirt #2:
Can't Touch This
<Drawing of a steer's head>

I happen to have a spare copy of this sat on my desk.
Offers, bids or bribes will persuade me to post it
almost anywhere in the world.

There are two types of free energy machines I've heard of.
The Reed machine utilizes the energy in the earths magnetic field.
It is a generator that has windings rotating in the field.
This may be plausible. I had to take E&M 3 times before I got thru,
so maybe someone else can comment.
The DePalma machine uses a Faraday disk as a generator. That is
a metal disk with two doughnut shaped magnets on the sides rotating.
The claim is that the disk does not suffer from magnetic drag that
make generator armatures difficult to turn. This is because the
field lines in the disk are concentric circles. The inefficiencies
come from drawing the current from the disk. He intends to overcome
that by using mercury contacts. I have only seen an extrapolation
based on inefficient prototypes. I know of no breakeven or beyond
machines. A friend pointed out that the flaw in this machine is
that as you begin to draw current off the disk, current flows from
the center to the edge, crossing the field lines, causing drag.
This was assumed to be 0 in the extrapolation.
There is an article on crop circles in last weeks issue of Science.
I think this is the same issue with the article about a biological
basis for sexual preference. There's circles in the U.S. and Japan
as well as England. They staked out a likely field with monitors
and a circle formed, but it was too foggy for them to capture it on
film. The monitors eliminated the hoaxers in this case, but it doesn't
mean there are hoaxers, too. This doesn't exclude the Xists, though.
These people believe they are caused by turbulence induced by a
small hill on a flat plane. The ground level winds are clam and
the upper atmospheric winds are stronger. From here there are
several speculations. One is that a small vortex is formed and
sucks energy from the stronger winds above into its center, it hits
the ground hard and then dissipates. Another theory is that the
vortex sucks up grain dust and explodes like in silos. A Japanese
dude that simulates ball lightning in the lab thinks the energy might
come from static charges focused by the vortex.
