This is *not* an isolated incident! I distinctly remember a ``David
Letterman Show'' broadcast in December 1984, on which one of the
guests was a little old lady from the Midwest whose lawn gnome was
abducted (By *whom*? For what insiduous _purpose_?). [...]
Haven't you heard of the TSP (Travelling Souvenir Photo) cult? It all
began when a few photographers took a red couch with themselves and
started putting it in the darnedest places and photographing people on
it. Then they made a book about it, called "The Red Couch". People
read it and were Enlightened, and thought, wow, this travelling Red
Couch must be a sentient being from another dimension or something,
because _it made the photographers take it all around the USA and put
people on it and take photos of the whole thing_. And they thought,
this must have a very deep meaning about things we don't know, _the
red couch was trying to show us something_. They decided that what it
did show them was _the ritual_. The ritual of Travelling Souvenir
Photo objects. And they started a cult. In this cult, the Red Couch
is revered as the first TSP object. To get beyond the 1st initiation
level, you have to practice TSP on one object. What they want to do
is _communicate_ with those objects, you see? They firmly believe
humankind is being manipulated by red couches and lawn dwarves.
