Innocent plea in mayhem case
An argument between two Peabody men over the size of their
penises ended when one man sliced the other man's organ with
a knife, police said.
Gilbert DaSilva, 46, is scheduled to appear in Peabody
District Court Feb. 27 to face charges of mayhem after the
alleged attack on Jose Borges, 51, last week. DaSilva
pleaded innocent Monday.
Under state law, mayhem is defined as "malicious intent to
maim and disfigure," Sydney Barnes, Peabody Police
prosecutor, said yesterday.
The dispute at a downtown bar on Dec. 29 quickly escalated
into a fight. Borges then "exposed himself" and was cut,
said Police Capt. J. Stephen Begley.
Borges underwent surgery at Salem Hospital, where hospital
officials said the long-term prognosis for recovery was
uncertain.
