} About a week ago, we interviewed Ingrid Newkirk, the Executive Director
} of People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals. During the course of
} the interview, she mentioned several of the lesser-known things her
} group does. Among them were giving out vegetarian meals at homeless
} shelters, holding beauty clinics using cruelty-free cosmetics, and
} handing out cruelty-free condoms.

} Now, I understand what cruelty-free cosmetics are (ones that weren't
} tested for allergic reactions on bunnies) but I'll be damned if I can
} figure out what a "Cruelty-free condom" is?!?! At first, I thought she
} just meant condoms that aren't made from sheep intestine, but that's a
} really small percentage (something like 1%), and virtually all the rest
} are made from plant-derived latex. That leads one to the unescapable
} conclusion that there are people out there testing latex condoms ON
} animals! I guess that either means a) they're putting condoms on
} animals (say rams) and letting 'em go at it, or there are female
} aninmals out there getting it from a machine or other species. (Nothing
} new, of course, but I didn't know you could do it FOR A PROFESSION)!
