Sadly, the mention of Roger Carrasso and James ("Kibo") Parry make
this almost definitely a spoof.

Unless, of course, that's what they want us to think.

It seems to me that it ought to be possible to
determine in some sort of fairly rigorous/statistical
way whether or not Tv and violence are related.

Consider this thought experiment:

I have read that the years 1940-45 were particularly
violent. So the experiment involves taking those
years, as one block of time, and the years 1935-40,
and 1945-50 as two other blocks of time.

Then what we need to do is look at each year within
those three blocks and compare each years tv programs
with the amount of violence during those times.

Perhaps people who have saved all their tv guides
from those years could dig them out and assist with
determining which tv programs were violent during
those years, and compare that with the amount of
violence during that time.

One could also look at other time periods, and blocks
of time before and after that time. For example, the
conquest of the Americas, or the Hundred Years War.
Of course, the further back one goes, the less likely
you are to find people who have saved tv guides for
those years. Eventually a pattern should emerge of
the amount of violence in the world and what programs
were on tv--provided, of course, that there is actually
a link between tv and violence.

Oh, and another good time period to look at would be
the Roaring 20's, where I've read there was a considerable
amount of violence. Surely the tv programs during that
time period would show some correlation!
