Actually, a fuller version of the quote is "Do what thou wilt shall be the
whole of the law, *love is the will, will under law*.

Changes the meaning a bit, eh? That's why people popularized the bastardized
version...

#
# Magickian, Pagan Weirdo, and Fun Guy, Aleister Crowley used to say "Do
# what thou wilt shall be the whole of the Law."

The power of this statement comes from the fact that Jesus of Nazareth
said something very similar first. The Apostle Paul and Martin Luther
both echoed it.

Aleister Crowley et al have appropriated the statement in a spirit of
irony. I'm not familiar with the context of Crowley's quote, so I
don't know just how much he altered the context. I think it likely he
retained/recycled much of the anti-legalistic, anti-authoritarian spirit
in which it was originally uttered.

Sorry I don't have the YHWH-1 references handy. Luther's Commentary on
Romans would have discussion on the Jesus-Paul-Luther thread (on which
Luther based his "Theology of the Cross"). Perhaps someone knows exactly
where I can find the Crowley quote.
